Reversing school bus mows down LKG student

Bengaluru, Dec 17: A four-year-old LKG student was killed after his reversing school bus mowed him down, seconds after he alighted from it near Anekal on Monday.

The bus (KA 51-B-8697), attached to St Peter’s school, Hebbagodi, had no attendant. Y Dikshit, a resident of Kammasandra, came under its rear wheels at 12.45pm when he got down and was walking home, around 10 feet away.

Driver Channappa was arrested for causing death due to negligence. Police said the school management will be booked for not having an attendant in the bus. Dikshit was the son of businessman Yamanurappa.

In a similar tragedy on June 22, R Jeevita, 3, who was watching children get down from their school bus in Ramanagara, died after the bus knocked her down while reversing. Jeevita was standing at the edge of the road in front of her house, The driver didn’t notice her while reversing and knocked her down. The child’s head came under the rear wheel of the bus.

On June 17, Chintan Ramesh, 6, was run over by his school bus in BEML Layout, RR Nagar. Chintan had alighted from the bus and was walking home when the vehicle, which had no attendant, rammed him.

Hubli, Feb 17: A local court here on Monday sent three Kashmiri students who were arrested on charges of sedition to judicial custody till March 2.

They were arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans and posting a video of the same on social media, told police.

All three were taken into custody by the police on Sunday night and were produced before a local court on Monday.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: The usually busy and bustling city of Bengaluru wore a deserted look on Tuesday as Karnataka went into total lockdown, with the exception being the emergency services, to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday had announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 am of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," Yediyurappa said.
Earlier, the Karnataka government had ordered the suspending of all public and private transport services.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 in India have risen to 491.

New Delhi, Apr 15:  Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday said that both Maharashtra and Karnataka are in a bit of trouble due to spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Bihar is not in so much trouble right now, but definitely, Maharashtra is in a bit of trouble, particularly Mumbai and as well as Karnataka," said Vardhan in a video conference meeting while speaking about surge in COVID-19 tally in the country.

"But I was happy to see the confidence of 3 secretaries more particularly when Maharashtra Secretary said with confidence 'we will take care of it'," he said.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state with 2,687 cases of which 259 patients have recovered/discharged while 178 patients have lost their lives due to the virus.

Karnataka has confirmed 277 positive COVID-19 cases, including 75 cured and discharged and 11 deaths.

India's tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 11,933, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

Out of the total tally, 10197 cases are active while 1344 patients have been cured/discharged and migrated and 392 people have succumbed to the virus.
