Udupi, Nov 21: The rhetoric of nationalism has endangered the freedom of expression in India in recent years, according to Ganesh N. Devy, Chairman, People’s Linguistic Survey of India.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 11th general conference of South Central Zone Insurance Employees Federation here recently.
Dr. Devy said that intolerance bred contempt and hatred. It was essential to strengthen institutions. Aggressive capitalism pursued by governments was giving scant importance to the people, he said.
The four-day-long conference being held under the auspices of Insurance Employees Union, Udupi Division, has over 1,000 employees working in LIC Offices from Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh participating in it.
A rally was held as a prelude to the conference from the premises of LIC Divisional Office here to Basel Missionaries Memorial Auditorium, the venue of the event.
