Rich tributes paid to 2010 Mangaluru air crash victims

Mangaluru, May 22: Rich tributes were paid to the victims of 2010 Air crash by members of the District Administration of the Dakshin Kannada and the officials of the Mangaluru International Air Port at the Memorial and Park built in memory of the victims.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil laid wreath at the memorial on the outskirts of the city. Prominent citizens and members of the uniformed services also paid their tribute on the occasion.

It may be recalled that on this ill-fated day on May 22, 2010 the Mangaluru bound Air India Express aircraft crashed killing 158 passengers on board and eight passengers survived miraculously.

Mangaluru, Jun 6: As buses in Karnataka are operating following precautionary measures issued by the government to combat COVID-19, a few bus conductors were seen working wearing protective gears resembling personal protective equipment (PPE) on Saturday.

The Karnataka government had allowed resumption of bus services in the state during the fourth phase of COVID-19 lockdown, which ended on May 31.

The private buses were also equipped with hand sanitiser for the passengers. All the passengers were seen wearing face masks and maintaining distance from each other.

One of the bus conductors, en route State bank to Shaktinagar in Mangaluru was, was seen fully covered with protective suit.  

Sudarshan, a private bus conductor, also covered his face with a face shield. "PPE kit is for our protection and it is a must to keep ourselves and our passengers safe from COVID-19. All necessary equipment, including sanitisers and masks to fight COVID-19 have been provided by our bus owner to us," Sudarshan said.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: A total number of 32 SSLC students, who took exams between June 25 and July 3 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Eighty other students are in home quarantine. As per a press release from the Karnataka government here as of July 3, more than 7.60 lakh students wrote the exam, with 14,745 absentees. The report from the government stated that 3,911 students did not attend the exams as they were in a containment zone. A total of 863 students had not attended the exams as they were unwell.

Last week, a Class 10 student from Hassan had tested coronavirus positive. The student reportedly wrote an exam on June 25, despite having taken the coronavirus test. His positive result reportedly came shortly after he finished writing the exam.

Bengaluru, Mar 14: Following the footsteps of the neighbouring state Kerala, the state government has decided to deliver groceries to the mid-day meal scheme beneficiaries at the anganwadis.

The state govt has also declared one-week holiday for anganwadis, as a precautionary measure to control the spread of COVID-19 among children.

The respective district administrations have been directed to take necessary steps to ensure that the groceries are delivered to the students’ homes as well.
