Ricky Kej's concert for Vidhana Soudha jubilee fete cancelled

Bengaluru, Oct 22: Grammy award winner Ricky Kej's scheduled musical concert during celebrations to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Vidhana Soudha here, the seat of the state legislature, has been cancelled due to paucity of time after the government cut-short the programme. 

Since the government had cut short the two-day programme on October 25-26 to one day (October 25), it became difficult to accommodate his two-hour programme, Kej told PTI today. "Hence, I along with the state government authorities have mutually and cordially agreed to call off my programme in the larger interest of accommodating all the other programmes," he said.

Kej, however, said he would happy to perform, with no monetary expectations, any day in future for the occasion of 60th year celebrations of Vidhan Soudha. The government had earlier planned a stream of events on October 25 and 26 to celebrate the occasion. President Ram Nath Kovind is slated to address a joint session of the state legislature on October 25. Kej's concert was scheduled on October 26.

Bengluru, Apr 20: Lockdown restrictions have been extended by a day by the Karnataka government, in an order issued by chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Sunday.

The order directed all heads of departments, district deputy commissioners and superintendent of policies to "continue to implement the measures presently in force" as per Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines dated April 14, "till the midnight of April 21, 2020."

The MHA guidelines had earlier allowed the state government to relax lockdown norms post-April 20.

Mangaluru, Mar 28: After a youth from Dakshina Kannada who tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 revealed that he had travelled by a bus, authorities have requested all his fellow passengers to visit their nearest district hospital. 

The 21-year-old man hailing from Belthangady taluk had flown from Dubai to Bengaluru on March 21 and on the same day travelled to Mangaluru by the KSRTC bus bearing registration number KA 19, F3329. 

As he was suffering from fever and cough he was admitted to Puttur government hospital on March 24. He was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 27.   

It is not yet know how many passengers were there on board the above mentioned bus which had departed Bengaluru at 4:30 p.m. on March 21. It is believed that most of the passengers who travelled by this bus are residents of Dakshina Kannada. 

Hence, the KSRTC authorities today requested all the passengers who travelled by this bus to visit their nearest district hospital for necessary checkup. The passengers also were urged to quarantine themselves for next couple of weeks.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: The chemistry department of National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K) here has started producing hand sanitizers in view of its shortage in the market after the coronavirus outbreak.

The social initiative led by Arun Isloor, professor and head of the department, was launched by NIT-K director K Uma Maheshwar Rao.

The raw materials needed for this product were provided by the institute.
