‘Right-wing activist’ booked for trying to sexually abuse 5-year-old girl

Kasaragod, Oct 26: Police have launched a manhunt to nab youth who allegedly trying to sexually abuse a 5-year-old girl at Kottapara in Panyal village in Kasaragod.

The accused has been identified as Prashanth (30) a truck driver hailing from Pullur, near Kanhangad. He is said to be a right wing activist.

Acting on a complaint lodged by a Childline activist, the Bekal police on Wednesday registered the case against him under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act- 2012.

The complaint alleged that the youth had tried to sexually abuse the minor girl by luring her into an auto-rickshaw the other day, following which the girl’s parents approached the Childline office.

Mangalore, Feb 17: The Popular Front of India (PFI) on Monday took out a march in Mangalore's Deralakatte without seeking permission, police said.

"They were only given permission for a programme but they took out a march from Madaninagar to Deralakatte," said ACP Kodanada Rama.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: The Karnataka government on Saturday issued an order, directing private hospitals not to deny treatment to patients with coronavirus and COVID-19 like symptoms.

"Non-compliance of this order will attract punishment under sections of Disaster Management Act 2005," an order read.

Meanwhile, people coming from Maharashtra will be placed in seven-day institutional quarantine followed by seven-day home quarantine in Karnataka, the state government said.

People coming from other states will need to undergo 14-day home quarantine.

Bengalur, May 15: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Friday said that stern action will be taken against the persons responsible for organising the village temple fair in Ramanagara district.

"Stern action will be taken against the person responsible for organising the festival. This should not have happened," the Deputy CM said.

Flouting all social distancing norms, people had gathered in large numbers for a temple fair in Kolagondanahalli village of Ramanagara. People were even not wearing masks.

They had taken permission for gathering from Panchayat Development Officer NC Kalmatt.

Kalmatt has been suspended by Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner following a report by the Tehsildar.

Meanwhile, 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.
