Riyadh: Karavali Bulls win Karavali Kabaddi championship-2018

Riyadh: Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh Saudi Arabia conducted tis maiden national level Kabaddi championship at Riyadh on January 19 at H.F.Stadium, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

KWAR president Santhosh Shetty welcomed the guests and sponsors as well as all the Kabaddi enthusiasts gathered in the stadium. Generous contributions from KWARs well-wishers’ Universal Spare parts Abdul Latif, Taj Restaurant’s Kevin Nazareth, Hi Chef restaurants Shameer Rahiman, Sallap Shetty Udupi, Bhaskar K C. Jagadish Shetty, Prasanna Rao, Yathiraj Malpe, Nelson Dsouza, Mahesh Hegde, Rajesh Kumar, Hamid Nazir, Usman Gulvadi, Irfan Abubaker, Ramesh Shetty, Iqbal Tanzeem, Prakash Shetty, Hussain Shaafi, Dilip Kumar, G.K. Sheik, Santhosh Shetty Ardi, were able to make this Championship A DREAM COME TRUE. All the Sponsors were felicitated with flower bouquet.  Vice president Muzaffar Ali,  General Secretary Nelson Dsouza, Treasurer Mahesh Hegde, Former President Rajesh Kumar, Former President of MASA Dammam Narendra Shetty & Gopal Shetty were at the dais.

A total number of 9 teams Participated in this Premium event, who came from as far as Jeddah, Jubail, Alhasa and Dammam. The following teams participated in the championship: 1. Karavali Bulls 2. Sultan Attackers 3. Karavali Super Riders 4. Jubail Friends 5. Bhatkal Community Jeddah 6. Classic Friends Puttur 7. Universal Riyadh Indians 8. ISF AlHasa 9. Arab Traders.

The tourney began at 4 p.m., after the event was inaugurated by Abu Abdullah, the owner of H.F. Sports Stadium along with our Major sponsors and after the players were given oath of spirit of sportsmanship by KWARS former President Rajesh Kumar. The game was wide open and it was a surprise treat for the huge numbers of Kabaddi loving spectators gathered in the stadium, irrespective of a Chilly Fridayevening. After the League Matches among the 9 teams with 3 groups, 6 teams were qualified and divided in to 2 groups and 2 each from these groups were qualified to play semifinals of the mega Kabaddi championship. Karavali Bulls, Bhatkal Community Jeddah, ISF Alhasa and Classic Friends Puttur Qualified and reached the semi-finals, with mesmerizing Kabaddi play which enthralled the Huge crowd who were at their toes.  It was a history day for Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh, the organization with a “Unity is Our Strength” slogan stepping in to their 10th Glorious Years in service of needy Indians.

The first semi-final payed between Bhatkal community Jeddah and Classic Friends Puttur saw some wonderful see-saw battle between both the teams but All-round play by Bhatkal Community Team won the place in first ever FINALS of Karavali Kabaddi Championship 2018.  The second Semifinal played between the Multi-Talented Karavali Bulls and ISF Alhasa team.  ISF Alhasa fought valiantly to surrender to the much stronger Karavali bulls who reached the Finals to play for championship match against Bhatkal Community Jeddah. 

The final match was a match between two top Kabaddi teams of Saudi Arabia. As expected the huge crowd did not miss the thrilling entertainment these two top teams provided to the gathered who were there to watch the final at the wee hours of midnight defying a cold and breezy weather to cheer up their respective teams. After a few early hiccups, Star studded Karavali Bulls Lead by captain cool Suraj Shetty deservingly won the championship-2018 with final score of 27-10.  The crowd and supporters of Karavali Bulls were ecstatic and the history was created in this first ever national level Kabaddi championship, well organized by Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The scorers were Murali, Jaykar Poojary and Ashwat Rai did a commendable job. Abbas Mani, Dilip Kumar, Bhaskar Salian and Siraj ably supported Chief Referee Mr. Sandip Shetty to conduct all the matches in a free and fair manner.

This championship wouldn’t have been successful without the special efforts from Our executive members, and KWAR members specially Rajesh Kumar Prasanna Rao Mahesh Hegde,  Irfan Abubaker, Nelson Dsouza, Anoop Shetty Subhash Shetty, Jagannath Kotian, Gopinath, Bhaskar Salian , Murali, Suraj Shetty, Umesh Shetty, Arjun Murthy, Sudhir Shetty  Salman Nour, Yathiraj Malpe, Hussain Shafi,  Varun Shetty, Sunil Hegde, Bhaskar P. M. Shrikant Hejamadi, Nazeer Ahmad, G.k.Sheikh, Iqbal Tanzeem, Jayakar Poojary, Ashwath Rai, Dilip Kumar and Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli.

KARAVALI BULLS were represented by Captain Suraj Shetty. Arjun Murthy, Mohd Fakruddin, Sudhir Shetty, Rashid Badsha, Mohd Farooq, Varun Shetty, Mohd Razak, Raja and Manager Prasanna Rao. Kabaddi Fans are reminded that KARAVALI BULLS were the Reigning CHAMPIONS of KABADDI Tournament conducted by NRI Sports Federation at Jeddah in March last year.

All the winners were presented with Medals and Champions and Runners up were Presented with Trophies and Cash prizes. Referee Sandeep Shetty who came specially from Dammam to supervise the Kabaddi matches was felicitated by KWAR President Santhosh Shetty. Mr. Santhosh Shetty Thanked all Executive committee members, members of KWAR, Sponsors, and all guests as well as All the Kabaddi Fans gathered in the stadium. He specially thanked national Kabaddi player Sukesh Hegde who sent his best wishes to KWAR management for the success of Kabaddi championship. KWAR President urged everyone to join hands with KWAR cause.   event ended with a recitation of the National Anthem.

Jeddah: Indian Pilgrims Welfare Forum (IPWF) under the patronage of consulate General of India Jeddah related to welfare activities connected to Indian hajj pilgrims in particular and welfare functions of Indian community at large, organized Quran recitation competition for Indian students of age 10 to 14 residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Grand Finale was conducted Live online via Zoom virtual conference on Friday 15th May 2020 at 14:45 Hrs.

The Consul General Of India, Jeddah and Vice Patron IPWF, H.E.Mr. Md. Noor Rahman Shiekh graced the Grand Finale as honorable Chief Guest. The HOC, Consul Hajj and Director IPWF - Mr. Y Sabir attended as Guest of Honor, while the ever-exuberant President of the forum Mr. Ayyub Hakeem lead the event. A large number of Indian dignitaries and media personnel also joined this live event.

Judges panel included three experienced youths. First judge was the Prominent Hafiz and one of the best Qaris of his calibre, Hafiz Ismail Yahya Bilal, well educated in Qirat from Umm Al Qura University Makkah and currently persuing Masters. He also holds many honors and accolades from various international competitions and appreciations from Imaams of Haramain. The other judge, Hafiz Abdullah A.Mateen Usmani, first position winner, a record for being youngest Indian to win Jeddah Quran competition 2018 under patronage of Jeddah Governor.  Hafiz Farhan Abdur Rab, was the third judge, an Engineer by profession, as well as current Treasurer at IPWF.

Winners; Humeirah Masood Kazi and Furqan Mohammed Vasi Ahmed won Gold position. Maryam Jaffar and Adil Abdul Rasheed ranked Silver while Khatija Ehtesham Ali and Nadeem Noorisha ranked Bronze. Consolation prizes were given to Aamina Mustafa and Mohammed Ahsan Ali. The event was organized to encourage and boost the ambitions of young generation and inspring them to bring out their best in Quran Recitation

While speaking at the event Chief Guest H.E.Mr. Md.Noor Rahman Sheikh appreciated the social works of IPWF for Indian Community, praised the brilliant performance of students, He said it gives us great pleasure seeing that all participants, Judges and Jury members are Indians, he said the recitation of the children was fantabulous, and congratulated to the winners and participants. Chief Guest further said President Ayyub Hakeem and his IPWF Team deserves to be appreciated for their relentless efforts for this Noble cause, even in this period when the world is observing lockdown.

HOC, Consul Hajj Mr. Y Sabir appreciated IPWF team for organizing this virtual competition, he said it’s really amazing that 111 students registered to participate for the contest, he appreciated the hard work of children and efforts of parents for preparing their children.

Mr. Hakeem welcomed all and informed that this competition received overwhelming response from Indian community locally and internationally in short time since its launch was just couple of days earlier. Which compliments events Objective to encourage children “mainly Indians residing in Saudi Arabia” especially during the month of Quran “Ramadan” and lockdown period #COVID-19. 

40 contestants made it to the Semifinals, and 15 Students reached the Grand Finale, 2 young children were given consolation for their enthusiastic recitation. 

The President also appreciated his IPWF Team for unwavering support in preparation of this event.  He thanked the Chief Guest, HE Mr. Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh and Guest of Honor Mr. Y Sabir for gracing this glorious competition. He Thanked the audience and announced that all contestants will be awarded appreciation “digital certificate’

Syed Nasir Khursheed anchored the program, and entertained with beautiful Urdu couplets. Farhan Abdur Rab and Abdul Rahman Poyakkara conducted the contest flawlessly on time. Farhan, concluded the event with Vote of Thanks and soleful dua.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.
