Riyadh: Learn the Qur'aan meet and students' talent program held

Riyadh:  ‘Learn the Qur'aan meet & students' talent program’ was recently held at Shalal Istirah Exit 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The students of Darul Ilm Madrasa Riyadh, which is under the supervision of Karnataka Salafi Foundation (KSF) Riyadh, exhibited their multiple talents through various activities like Islamic speeches, songs, dialogues, Daffs, group & stage shows etc.

Darul Ilm Madrasa President B.K.Haneef Bardila welcomed the audience & presented the brief backgroud of the Madrasa. He said-" The Madrasa first started with 15 students in 2010 to cater the Deeni educations based on Qur'aan & Sunnah (Traditions of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) & in learning the Qur'an, its Tafsir, authentic Hadeeths, Tajweed Akhlaq ( etiquiettes), Fiqh etc.

Now the Madrassa became a successful institution with more than 300 students including around 50 Tamil students; he also called upon the parents to make use of this facility...Indian Islahi Center is the Umbrella organization under which  all Madrasas are being monitored & worked well..."

KSF Riyadh President, Moosa Talapady gave introductory speech & conducted the program. Zakir Talapady, Dammam-Khobar Daee, gave a lecture on parenting & children. Explaining the importance of bringing up the children on solid Deeni foundation, he said -" Children are very good asset if they are brought up on Deeni knowledge & its practice in lives; Tauheed is the key corner, which navigates the children in right direction & to become valuable person in the community as well as in the society...he cited good examples of the lives of the Prophets & their best followers (Swahabaas)...".

A Tamil Da'ee from Sultana Jaliyath Riyadh also delivered a speech on the importance of Qur'aan & its prevalene in modern time. Ayyub Kalai, one of the key executives of KSF, spoke on the occasion & highlighted the significance of Tauheed in one's life; without Tauheed, all other deeds in Deen are of no value...he called upon to stick to Tauheed in any situation..."

People from different parts of Saudi Arabia attended the Program comprising a large gathering including women. Mrs. Ummu Arshad, Principal of Darul Ilm Madrasa Riyadh, was felicitated for her hard work of day & night, & excellent contribution in shaping up the Madrasa in most successful direction. Her son Arshad Moosa, received the memento on her behalf on the stage. Other teachers' contributions & endeavors were also appreciated on the dais.

Prizes were distributed to those who won the "Learn the Qur'aan" competition, in which Mrs. Fazlu Gangulli won the first prize. Others who came in second & third places were also conferred with prizes. Children, who won in the various activities were also given prizes. Books library was on exhibition both for prices & free distributions. Food was also served in the end of the program while snacks & juices were being frequently provided to the audience.

Masha Allah. Well organized program. Darul ilm Madrasa, a Saudi Jaliyat approved Madrasa system having branches in Riyadh, Al-Khobar, Dammam & Jeddah. Nice to see Moosa Talapady, Haneef BK, Mustafa Talapady and other office bearers of KSF.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.
