Riyadh: Maaz killing ‘inhuman’

Jeddah, Feb 5: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on Wednesday called the burning alive of a Jordanian fighter pilot "inhuman and contrary to Islam."

In a message of condolence to Jordan's King Abdallah, he said Saudi Arabia “learned with profound sadness of the martyrdom of Lt. Maaz Al-Kasaasbeh.”

King Salman condemned the “heinous crime,” which he said was against all values of humanity. Crown Prince Muqrin, deputy premier, also sent a similar condolence message to the Jordanian king.

Like Jordan, Saudi Arabia since September has been part of the US-led coalition against the Islamic State terrorist group, carrying out airstrikes against IS militants who have captured swaths of land in Iraq and Syria.

Meanwhile, the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation denounced the pilot’s murder. The OIC called for an emergency meeting to discuss joint measures to confront terrorism, extremism and hatred.

The Makkah-based Muslim World League also strongly flayed the IS, saying only enemies of Islam could do such a horrendous crime.

Maaz’s father, meanwhile, has called on his government to avenge the death of his son.

“I ask that this should not end with Sajida Al-Rishawi and Ziad Karboulia (the terrorists hanged by Amman in response). I expect the government to seek revenge, severe revenge for the blood of Maaz against this horrid organization, this criminal organization, this organization that is far from Islam and the spirit of Islam,” he said speaking to Al Arabia Channel.

He added: “The pain is deep. My son isn’t just the son of Safi Al-Kasaasbeh; he is the son of every Jordanian.

Riyadh, May 22: The family of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi on Friday said that they forgave his killers. Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who had written columns critical of Saudi Arabia, was brutally killed in October 2018, allegedly at the behest of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

“In this blessed night of the blessed month [of Ramadan] we remember God’s saying: If a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah,” Jamal Khashoggi’s son Salah Khashoggi said in a tweet. “Therefore, we the sons of the Martyr Jamal Khashoggi announce that we pardon those who killed our father, seeking reward [from] God almighty.”

The legal outcome of this announcement is not yet clear. Earlier, Salah Khashoggi said he had “full confidence” in the judicial system, and that the accused were trying to exploit the case.

Jamal Khashoggi’s body was said to have been dismembered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and disposed of elsewhere, but his remains were never found.

Riyadh, Apr 24: As many as eleven Indian nationals have died due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia.

"As per information available with the Embassy as of April 22, eleven Indian nationals (four in Madinah, three in Makkah, two in Jeddah, one in Riyadh and one in Dammam) have passed away due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia," the Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia said in a press release on Wednesday.

It urged the Indian community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours amid the COVID-19 crisis.

"The Embassy also reiterates the need for the community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours that may create panic. It is important that social media is not used to disseminate false messages and spread hatred along communal lines that can vitiate the atmosphere," the Embassy said.

"As stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking, and our response and conduct should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood," it said.

Moreover, several measures on the supply of food, medicines and other emergency assistance to Indians in need are being implemented across the Kingdom.

Earlier, Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ausaf Sayeed on April 22 had interacted with Indian community volunteers from the smaller towns all across the Kingdom to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 situation, and evaluate the implementation of various measures to ensure the welfare of Indian nationals.

Kuwait, Aug 2: Kuwait has barred entry of foreign passengers from over 30 countries including India and China.

A circular from the Director General Civil Aviation, State of Kuwait directed all airlines operating at Kuwait International Airport to adhere to the instructions in this regard.

"Based on the decision of the Health Authority in State of Kuwait, no foreign passenger coming from the down listed countries will be allowed to enter the State of Kuwait," the circular read.

These include- India, Iran, China, Brazil, Colombia, Armenia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Syria, Spain, Singapore, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Iraq, Mexico, Indonesia, Chile, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Italy, North Macedonia, Moldova, Panama, Beirut ,Serbia Montenegro, Dominican Republic and Kosovo.

The circular stated that such restriction will also include the passengers were present 14 days before the date of travel until further notice.

The ban was announced the same day Kuwait began a partial resumption of commercial flights according to Khaleej Times, which quoted authorities stating that Kuwait International Airport would run at about 30 per cent capacity from Saturday, gradually increasing in coming months.

According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, Kuwait has reported 67,448 cases of coronavirus while the fatalities related to the virus stand at 453.
