Rohini moves HC, says mining mafia behind her transfer

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Hassan Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri Dasari has moved the High Court of Karnataka challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order, asking her to give representation to the Chief Secretary against her transfer order.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Monday. The petition states that the CAT's order directing her to appeal to the Chief Secretary is against the nature of justice as she has to make an appeal to the very authority who ordered her transfer. Going back to the Chief secretary is being ``virtually pushed towards the wall'', the petition said. She has termed her mounting grievances in this regard as 'pimple on the boil' in the petition.

Rohini has contended in the petition that IAS cadre posts have a fixed tenure of two years as per the rules and, despite this she is being transferred as the Hassan Deputy Commissioner for political reasons. The petition claimed she had cracked down on the mining mafia, which had enraged the local politicians who carried a tirade against her to the chief minister who directed for her premature transfer after succumbing to the political pressure. The petition states that many IAS officers with long tenure have been spared without subjecting to transfers. Rohini has urged the court to quash the transfer order of March 3, 2018 and the Tribunal's order of March 21, 2018. She stated that she has not approached the chief secretary, as directed by the CAT since there is a likelihood of enforcement of her transfer order with effect from March 26, outer limit fixed by the CAT to maintain a status quo. She further stated if the transfer order is implemented hurriedly, the petition becomes infructuous, and would cause injustice to her.

Rohini has made the principal secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), secretary, Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, and Randeep, deputy commissioner, Mysuru, who had to replace her as the Hassan DC, as respondents. Rohini, who assumed charge as Hassan deputy commissioner in July 2017, was transferred on January 22, 2018.

Such bold conscientious non-conformist female/male IAS/IPS/Technical Officers have been transferred in other states also, courtesy the concerned chief ministers at the instance of some of their highly questionable ministers. High time such transfer orders are challenged more & more in High Courts in other states also. A toplevel IIT Engineer had his own way of handling such frequent transfer postings. He came duly prepared at the new place of posting along with a brief case and suitcase; ready to move out again even in six months but not ready to compromise even on instructions from above. .

Mangaluru, July 28: A screenshot of a death threat message against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, is now going viral on social media.

The threat comes in the wake of the Deputy Commissioner’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha.

It is learnt that a discussion was held about DC’s warning in a pro-Hindutva WhatsApp group. The death threat was issued in the same group in Tulu language.

A police officer said that if the deputy commissioner doesn’t lodge a complaint, the police will file a suo motu case in this regard.

We, the undersigned express our solidarity with Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, renowned scholar, journalist and presently Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission.

We strongly condemn the continued media trial and targeting of Dr Zafarul Islam Khan for his Facebook post thanking Kuwait for expressing solidarity with Indian Muslims. In his Facebook post, he mentioned the appalling deterioration of human rights of Indian Muslims who have been targeted by Hindutva bigots. A few politicians with ulterior motives and news channel anchors known for spreading bigotry and Islamophobia have mischievously sought to misinterpret his statement and ridiculously label him as anti-Hindu and anti-India.

He has only reiterated what many citizens of India, public figures, international institutions, various European governments, the United States of America and United Nations human rights mechanisms have repeatedly underlined their concern at the increasing human rights abuse and violations of religious minorities in India.

Dr Zafarul Islam Khan is a man of integrity. He is a scholar who is known to stand up for constitutional freedoms and values.

His work as the Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission has been warmly applauded by human rights activists and NGOs across different faiths. His timely interventions on problems of minorities in Delhi have made him a respectable figure among not only Muslims but Sikh, Christians, Jains and Parsis. He is a humanist in the truest sense of the word.

The hateful propaganda against Dr Khan is one more illustration as how certain Indians fail to differentiate between Hinduism, a religion and Hindutva which is a supremacist political ideology.

Dr Zafarul Islam Khan is a leading Indian intellectual whose niche area is Islamic studies and Arab world. He enjoys great respect in the Arab and Muslim world for his understanding and knowledge. He is an alumni of the esteemed Jamia Al-Azhar and Manchester University.

Dr Khan is known for taking bold public positions. He was the first Muslim scholar in the world who denounced ISIL, which later became IS or ISIS. He issued a statement opposing the barbaric crimes of ISIL (IS or ISIS) and Boko Haram against minorities. He takes strong stands against extremism of all sorts. That makes him a prominent critic of RSS.

Dr Khan is a scholar ambassador and earned international prestige for the India. Any attack and targeting of him, is actually an insult to Indian constitution and ethos.

We demand the appropriate authorities of the Government of India take strong legal action against those who are distorting Dr Khan’s Facebook post, and spreading vicious false propaganda against him.

New Delhi, Mar 21: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister B. Sriramulu on Saturday informed that one more person was tested positive for the coronavirus in the state.

He said that a total of 16 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the state so far.

The victim had come from Mecca and was kept in quarantine facility by the state authorities.

"For a 32-year-old man, who had just returned from a trip to Mecca has found COVID-19 positive. The infection has been confirmed. He has already been treated at an isolated ward of the hospital. Citizens must not have any sort of anxiety," tweeted Sriramulu.

Also, the news and public relations department, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Karnataka State Labour Studies Institute have invited volunteers for the programme to provide real-time information to people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation about coronavirus.

At least four volunteers will work in four shifts per day in each taluk of the state. There are about 120 volunteers in Bengaluru city and about 3,000 Corona Warriors are expected to register from across the state. Over 400 volunteers have registered via online application on the first day.
