Bengaluru, May 30: Two former ministers who have turned rebels - Ramesh Jarkiholi and R Roshan Baig - skipped the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Wednesday, conveying that they were still estranged and fuelling speculation that they were getting closer to the BJP.

CLP leader Siddaramaiah, however, maintained that there was no disgruntlement in the party. “Ramesh and Baig didn’t come, but they won’t quit the party,” he said.

Ramesh is widely believed to be anchoring a plan to get some disgruntled MLAs, including himself, to resign. Baig, on the other hand, has made his disgruntlement blatantly clear as he launched a tirade against party leaders and called them names.

According to Siddaramaiah, 72 out of 79 Congress legislators showed up for the CLP meet that was convened to primarily review the Lok Sabha election result. The Congress won just one seat. “Byrathi Basavaraj is unwell, Ramalinga Reddy has gone abroad, some like Rahim Khan, Rajashekhar Patil and S N Subbareddy are busy with the urban local body elections,” Siddaramaiah said.

According to sources, AICC general secretary incharge of Karnataka K C Venugopal, who also attended the CLP meet, asked legislators to explain why the Congress-JD(S) alliance suffered setbacks in their constituencies.

The CLP meet also unanimously resolved to urge Rahul Gandhi to continue as Congress president. “He can’t alone take moral responsibility. All of us are responsible. His leadership is imperative for the country. Over 12.5 crore voters have supported the Congress in the Lok Sabha election. The party has bounced back from defeats in the past,” Siddaramaiah said.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."

Bengaluru, June 23: A senior IAS officer allegedly, who had faced arrest in connection with I Monetary Advice (IMA) scam, today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in the city. 

The deceased is BM Vijay Shankar. He had been arrested by special investigation team (SIT) in the I Monetary Advice (IMA) case when he was deputy commissioner (DC) Urban Bengaluru. 

He had spent few days in the jail over his alleged involvement in the IMA scam and was released on bail. The IMA case is currently being probed by Central Bureau of Investigation.

Shankar was staying in Jayanagar near Ashoka Pillar along with his family members.

Shankar was accused of taking Rs 1.5 crore to approve a report on financial irregularities, and was accused of giving a clean chit to the main accused of IMA scam, Mohammed Mansoor Khan.

The incident came to light around 8 pm. It is alleged that Shankar ended his life around 7.00 pm, when he was alone in the house. Shankar was said to be under severe depression after his name surfaced in the scam, and his subsequent arrest.

However, the exact reason for his extreme step is yet to be identified. Tilak Nagar police have taken up the case of mysterious death under CrPc and are probing further. As of now the police officials have not found any death note. A senior officer said: "once we finish the procedures of investigating the spot his body will be shifted to Victoria hospital for post mortem. The report will find out exact cause of his death".

Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said: "We have taken up the case of unnatural death with regard to Vijay Shankar's death. Further probe will reveal more details about it".

Bengaluru, Apr 6: The Covid-19 Task Force aims to conduct 80,000 throat swab and blood tests over the next three weeks here.

According to Task Force Nodal Officer C N Manjunath an order for one lakh anti-body test kits has been placed, and was expected to arrive on April 12.

"From January 20 to March 23, more than 1.2 lakh people arrived at international airports from abroad. Of these, we have kept 37,358 under observation. The Health officials and personnel in fever clinics and hospitals are being trained to conduct the tests. There is no necessity to obtain a clearance to test people with suspected infection. Only laboratories need to get permission to test their blood and throat swab samples."
