Roy Castelino resigns as Chairman of Konkani Museum Foundation

Mangaluru, Feb 23: Philanthropist and Konkani Activist Roy Castelino on Friday resigned from the post of the chairman of Konkani Museum Foundation sponsored by the Mandd Sobhann, premier Konkani institution of Coastal Karnataka.

In his resignation letter submitted to the President of Mandd Sobhann, Louis Pinto he stated as following:

“That I have been very active in the formation and progression of Mandd Sobhann since its inception is a known fact. All the present buildings housing the Mandd Sobhann sponsored Kalangann, and the Mandd Sobhann office are on the land belonging to me and my late esteemed Father. You are well aware of the fact that though I am not the member of Mandd Sobhann, I have been very enthusiastic in supporting the cause of Mandd Sobhann since its very beginning, financially or otherwise. We all expected and foresaw the continuous growth of Konkani language, literature and culture under the guiding spirit of Mandd Sobhann. In many occasions of challenges and compulsions we tried hard and succeeded to stand above personal differences and worked for the success of our objectives even at the cost of personal hardships and losses.

I am grateful to the organization for having selected me as the chairman of the Konkani Museum Foundation. I leading a team of well wishers tried and succeeded in getting a budgetary allocation of Rs 2.5 crores and further 2.5 crores were assured by the State government. We failed in actualizing the grants for the reasons well known to you and to the public. Certain unexpected developments of the recent times, well known to you and to the public unfortunately compel me to keep away, respectfully, from the activities of the Konkani Museum Foundation. And therefore with this present I submit my resignation for the post of Chairmanship of Konkani Museum Foundation. I request your kind self to accept the same.

This was not an easy decision to make, on my part. The past years of working with you have been very rewarding. I wish you and the organization all the best. Hope the Konkani Museum becomes a reality at its earliest.

Ballari, June 30: A video clip of dead bodies of covid-19 victims being disgracefully thrown into a pit said to be in Karnataka’s Ballari has gone viral on social media triggering outrage from netizens.

Ballari Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul ordered a probe. He told media persons that the veracity of the video is still under question and that it still needs to be established if the video was taken in Ballari.

In the video, a pit is seen which appears to be disinfected. The video features masked men covered in body suits bringing dead bodies from a black hearse van in black body bags one by one and throwing the dead bodies into the same pit. In all, three dead bodies are thrown into the same pit in the video.

"We have assigned an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) to enquire and verify the same. We are awaiting reports. We don't know yet if it (the video) is from Ballari or not," Nakul said.

The district which has so far reported around 800 cases in the last three months has also witnessed around two dozen deaths.

Twitterati on Tuesday raised questions about the handling of the bodies. "Even dead have some respect and they deserved a decent burial," said a social activist from Ballari. Similar reactions echoed on social media and some also pointed out on how the family members who have to stay away from burials feel about it.

Covid burial protocol

According to the protocol set by the Union Health Ministry for the burial of Covid-19 patients, the patients' orifices (nose, mouth and ears) have to be sealed and the body has to be wrapped in three layers of personal protective equipment (PPE). Thereafter it should be placed in a body bag. Family members should not be allowed to accompany the body in the hearse van. Covid-19 victims have to be given a deep burial. The grave should be minimum 10-feet deep.

The grave should be disinfected with bleaching powder and the area should be cordoned off so that the general public is not in the vicinity.  The vehicle used to transport the dead body of a Covid-19 victim -- ambulance or a hearse van -- has to be disinfected for 16 hours before being used again. Most Covid-19 victims in the state have had burials in the absence of family members as they are generally in quarantine for being the primary contacts of the patient.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.

Mangaluru, May 10: A young photographer has drowned in River Phalguni near Maravoor on the outskirts of the city.

The victim has been identified as Kaushik, 22, who was working for Diya Studio in Kavoor. A resident of Kavoor, he was the only son of his mother.

The tragedy occurred when he had been to the river along with four friends to collect freshwater snails.

It is learnt that local residents rushed to the spot when Kaushik’s friends raised alarm. However, they could not rescue him.

Kaushik’s body was retrieved from the water after sometime. A case has been registered at Kavoor police station.
