Mangaluru, Feb 26: Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday arrested a man for trying to smuggle gold worth over Rs 26 lakh by concealing it in his rectum.
The accused has been identified as Moideen Arzan, a resident of Uppala, Kasaragod.
According to police, he arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight and was attempting to smuggle the gold which he had converted in the form of paste and concealed in rubber capsules inside his rectum.

Nagarajun graced the occasion as Chief Guest, in is address he lauded the invaluable contributions of Dr. Rai to the Rotary Movement and congratulated on his achievements. Later he awarded the Rotary Glittering Trophy, Certificates and Cash prizes of R.3,000 to the Winners and Runners up and congratulated them on their unique achievements.
13 Teams from Mangaluru, Bykampady, Panamburu, Deralaktte, Puttur, Mysore, participated in this contest. Rtn. Dr. Devdas Rai was the Quiz Master and officiated the closely contested quiz contest. Asst. Governor Zone-2 Rtn. Geethanand Pai was the guest of honour he released the weekly club news bulletin “Centor”. Club President Rtn. Dr. Jayaprakash Poonja presided over the function. Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.
The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.
A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.
The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.
She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.
She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.
It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: Amid calls for boycott of Chinese products in the backdrop of Indo-China border face-off, former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy sought to know from the BJP government in Karnataka the status of the "Compete with China" policy brought during the previous JDS-Congress rule.
Boycotting Chinese products was not easy like sloganeering but required a creative policy and the coalition government's initiative was a model for it, he said in a series of tweets.
"After the border skirmish, some people got the realisation to boycott the Chinese products but during my tenure (as chief minister) a serious thought was given to it," the JDS leader said.
He was apparently referring to growing clamour for boycott of China-made products after a violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh left 20 Indian Army personnel dead early this week.
Mr Kumaraswamy said he had brought the Compete With China policy to effectively deal with the neighbouring country.
"My government's objective was to offer jobs to the local residents, snatch away market opportunities for China and discard the Chinese products."
"However, what has the present government done to our scheme? It is not known whether it is still continuing or not," Mr Kumaraswamy said.
The Kumarswamy government had identified clusters and earmarked Rs 2,000 crore for their development.
