Rs 55-cr scam: Surathkal police book two senior bank officials

Managluru, Oct 31: The Surathkal police have registered a case against two senior bank officials in connection with a scam, wherein a fixed deposit (FD) of Rs 55 crore belonging to a government agency has allegedly been transferred to other accounts by creating a fake fixed deposit account.

The accused are Serin Madhusoodhan, manager, Kulai branch of the bank, and Senthil Kumar A., Regional Chief Manager of the bank in Ballalbagh, M.G. Road, on October 30.

The case was registered following a complaint lodged by Veeranagouda Patil, Chief Finance Officer – I, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd. (KRIDL), Bengaluru against the Indian Overseas Bank.

According to the First Information Report, the KRIDL had deposited Rs. 20 crore in the bank’s Kulai branch on August 24, 2017, and another Rs. 35 crore in the same branch on August 30 for one-year at the interest rate of 5.75%. The amount had been transferred through RTGS from the Corporation Bank, S.C. Road, Bengaluru. The IOB had issued two bonds on the same to the KRIDL.

Covid-19: Karnataka police raids 120 shops black marketing food grains

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Police on Wednesday conducted surprise raids at nearly 120 shops in Bengaluru following complaints of black marketing and sale of foodgrains above the MRP rate.

Sandip Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru in a tweet said that action has been initiated against these shopkeepers.

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Mangaluru: DC refutes reports that passenger from Dubai had coronavirus

Mangaluru, Mar 9: Deputy Commissioner Dakshina Kannada, Sindhu B Rupesh on Monday refuted reports that a passenger who arrived in Mangaluru from Dubai showed coronavirus symptoms had skipped a hospital visit.

While replying to reporters on the issue, Rupesh said: "Passenger who arrived from Dubai has not shown any coronavirus related symptoms. He just had a fever. He was shifted to district hospital last night, but he is not cooperating with us. He is not ready to stay in a hospital. We are convincing him".

"Till now, no positive case of coronavirus has been found in Mangaluru", she added.

Earlier, the Centre had suspended visas and e-visas granted on or before March 3 to people travelling from Italy, Iran, South Korea, and Japan, effective immediately, after a surge in cases of COVID-19 in these countries.

The coronavirus has affected 43 people in India so far and caused the deaths of over 3,800 people globally.

Eid al-Adha a symbol of sacrifice, patience: S M Rashid Haji

Mangaluru, July 31: Extending Eid al-Adha greetings to the people, S M Rashid Haji, president of the Bearys chamber of commerce & industry has termed the festival as a symbol of sacrifice and patience.

“Eid al-Adha commemorates the Prophet Ibraheem’s (a) test of faith and sacrifices. It symbolizes sacrifice and endurance,” he said.

“Every human being during his lifetime faces one or the other test from the Almighty… Now we are collectively facing the hardship... May this festival bring goodness and peace, and herald the end of pandemic,” he said.
