RSS ideologue terms Gadkari ouster conspiracy

New Delhi, Jan 31: On a day when newly elected BJP president Rajnath Singh advised party people to refrain from making public statements, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue M G Vaidya revisited embarrassing old wounds by claiming that former chief Nitin Gadkari was a victim of an “internal political conspiracy”.

“There seems to be an internal political conspiracy over the turn of events preceding Gadkari's resignation,” veteran Vaidya posted in his latest blog.

After visiting BJP headquarters at Ashoka Road on Wednesday, party president Rajnath Singh advised party leaders and workers not to say things publicly given the series of statements coming from leaders like Yaswant Sinha and Ram Jethmalani for making Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the prime ministerial candidate.

Singh was of the view that “leaders should maintain good speech and conduct... They should have patience,” as the Modi for PM chorus is growing louder with even NDA ally Akali Dal giving their nod to the Hindutva poster boy’s name.

When asked to comment on Vaidya’s blog, he avoided a direct reply. “I have not read it. So, I would not like to comment on it,” Singh remarked.

Vaidya saw a sinister pattern in the voices raised against the former BJP president. “The way the Jethmalani father-son duo started a campaign against Gadkari sometime back, shows something. At that time, Gadkari had not even received a single notice from any of the authorities, but to the Jethmalanis, Gadkari appeared as “kalankit” (tainted). But this kalank (taint) was not proved. After that, Shatrughan Sinha and Yashwant Sinha also demanded Gadkari’s resignation,” the RSS leader blogged.

“When all this was going on and I wrote it in my blog, I received a letter from Washington. The first line in that letter was ‘I am saddened by your support to Gadkari’. That letter cleared my doubts and made it clear that this was an internal conspiracy against Gadkari,” he added.

Earlier, Vaidya had accused Modi of being the brain behind the smear campaign to oust Gadkari. He had charged in his earlier post that Jethamalani’s demand of removing Gadkari and making Modi as PM candidate suggested that the plot was hatched in Gujarat. Interestingly, at that point of time, the RSS had distanced itself from Vaidya’s comments describing them as his personal views.

The RSS leader is of the opinion that “Gadkari would have scored 70 of per cent votes had he contested polls for the second term”. Singh occupied the throne unopposed after Gadkari pulled out from the race owing to the Income Tax case and threat of other leaders contesting the polls.

“When the BJP amended its constitution to facilitate extending a second term to incumbent president Gadkari, a section of party leaders did not like it. But they did not oppose it openly and since then started working against giving second term to Gadkari”, Vaidya wrote in his blog.

Meanwhile, Singh is holding a series of consultations with senior party leaders to have consensus on the new team he is supposed to constitute and announce after holding the national executive and national council meetings in the middle of next month. He met Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday for an hour to discuss this issue apart from problems faced in other BJP-ruled states, said sources.

New Delhi, June 8: Only 20.26 lakh migrant workers of the targeted 8 crore such labourers have received free food grains in May and June (2020), according to data released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

In the middle of May, as part of the Rs 20 lakh crore Atma Nirbhar Bharat package, the Modi government had announced that migrant labourers who are not covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) or any state-run PDS scheme, will receive free food grains for two months.

"Non-card holders shall be given 5 kg wheat or rice per person and 1 kg chana per family per month for the next 2 months. About 8 crore migrants will benefit from this scheme that will cost the government Rs 3500 crore,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said at a press conference following PM Modi’s announcement.

But the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said on Sunday, "The states and UTs have lifted 4.42 LMT (lakh metric tonne) of food grains and distributed 10,131 MT of it to 20.26 lakh beneficiaries."

It added, "The Government of India also approved 39,000 MT pulses for 1.96 crore migrant families. Around 28,306 MT gram/dal have been dispatched to the states and UTs. A total 15,413 MT gram have been lifted by various states and UTs". The state governments, the ministry added, had distributed only 631MT (metric tonnes) of gram so far.

Because of the constant movement of migrant workers, the Centre had said that the states will be responsible for identifying the migrants and subsequent food distribution.

The Centre claims it is spending approximately Rs 3,109 crore for food grains and Rs 280 crores for grams/chana under this package.

Jun 5: Meerut Police on Thursday claimed that around 13,500 mobile phones in the country are running on the same IMEI, the number used to identify the device.

A case of fraud has been registered against the mobile phone manufacturing company and its service center, the police said.

The matter surfaced, after police personnel gave his mobile phone to the staff at cybercrime cell for examination, as the new phone was not working properly despite being repaired, Meerut SP (city) Akhilesh N Singh said.

The cyber cell found that around 13,500 other mobile phones are also running on the same International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) as that of the police personnel's phone, the superintendent of police said.

He said the matter is a serious security issue.

Prima facie it appears to be negligence on part of the mobile phone company and criminals can use it to their advantage, Singh said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law at a Medical police station and a team of experts has been called to look into the matter.

Mumbai, Feb 17: The Shiv Sena on Monday said the ongoing preparation for the much awaited visit of US President Donald Trump is a reflection of the "slave mentality" of Indians.

Trump's India trip is like the visit of a "Badshah" (emperor), an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said.

Taking a dig at the construction of a wall on a plot having several slum structures in Ahmedabad ahead of Trump's visit there, the Sena said the US president's trip would neither stop the fall of rupee's value in forex market nor offer betterment to those (slum dwellers) behind the wall.

"Before Independence, British King or Queen used to visit one of their slave nations like India. The kind of preparations going on from taxpayers' money for the arrival of Trump is similar to it. This reflects the slave mentality of Indians," it said.

The Sena also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) move to build wall on a plot to "hide the slums" on the route through which Trump's convoy would pass.

"Former prime minister Indira Gandhi had once given the slogan 'Garibi Hatao', which was ridiculed for a long time. It seems now Modi's plan is 'Garibi chupao' (hide poverty)," the Marathi publication said.

Is there any financial allocation for such a wall being built in Ahmedabad? Is the US going to offer loan to India to build such walls across the country? it wondered.

"We have heard Trump is going to be in Ahmedabad for only three hours but the wall construction is costing almost Rs 100 crore to the state exchequer," it said.

It is basically a political arrangement between Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump, the Sena claimed.

Last year, 'Howdy, Modi!' (a mega event jointly addressed by the Indian prime minister and Trump) was organised in the US, it noted.

A similar programme, "Kem Chho Trump" (Gujarati expression for how are you Trump), has been now organised (in Ahmedabad) ahead of the US elections, chiefly because of a sizable number of Gujarati people living in America, the Shiv Sena claimed.

"But this visit of President Trump is neither going to stop further fall of rupee in the forex market nor offer betterment to those behind the wall (being built in front of slums in Ahmedabad)," it said.

The Sena said Trump is "not someone very wise or a statesman or someone who cares for the whole world", but he has to be treated with respect as he represents the mighty US.

"Sometimes you have to treat someone with respect to get your things done," it quipped.

The AMC on Friday said the construction of the wall, around four feet in height, was approved much before Trump's Gujarat visit was finalised.

Trump is scheduled to visit Modi's home state Gujarat on February 24.

He will visit the famous Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and take part in a roadshow with Modi. After that, the two leaders will inaugurate a new cricket stadium in Motera and address a gathering there, with an expected audience of over a lakh people.

While it was earlier speculated that the programme would be called 'Kem Chho Trump', the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday tweeted a series of posters confirming that the event is now christened as 'Namaste Trump', apparently to give it a pan-India appeal.
