RSS opposes national flag, anthem: Rajasthan minister

Jaipur, Aug 21: Rajasthan Minister Shanti Dhariwal on Tuesday alleged that RSS has been a strong opponent of both the national flag as well as the national anthem.

His remarks came at a programme organised to celebrate late former Prime Minister and Congress chief's Rajiv Gandhi'S 75th birth anniversary in Jaipur. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot were also present on the occasion.

Seeking to bolster his claims, Dhariwal cited an instance from the freedom struggle, saying that when Mahatma Gandhi gave a call to hoist national flag everywhere on January 26, 1930, the RSS members hoisted saffron flag on their shakhas.

He also claimed that the RSS workers also oppose the national anthem as they believe that it doesn't generate that intensity of patriotism in people.

Dhariwal also said that even Rajiv Gandhi did not like the ideology of RSS.

With highest spike of 7,466 cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches 1,65,799

New Delhi, May 29: With the highest spike of 7,466 more COVID-19 cases and 175 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 1,65,799 on Friday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The number of active coronavirus cases stands at 89,987 while 71,105 people have been cured or recovered and one patient has migrated, it said. The death toll due to the infection has reached 4,706 in the country.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state with 59,546 cases. Tamil Nadu has recorded as many as 19,372 cases while Gujarat and Delhi have recorded 15,562 and 16,281 coronavirus cases respectively.

Scuffle erupts between cops and JNU Students

New Delhi, Jan 9: JNU students who tried to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday protesting the violence on the university campus were stopped by police and later detained.

The police also resorted to baton charge to control the mob who tried to block the traffic at Janpath. Using loudspeakers, the police also appealed to the crowd to maintain peace.

Before the students tried to proceed towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a delegation of JNU Students' Union and JNU Teachers' Association also met Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry officials and demanded the removal of Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar from his post.

New Delhi, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described British premier Boris Johnson as a "fighter" and hoped he recovers from coronavirus infection.

"Dear PM @BorisJohnson, you're a fighter and you will overcome this challenge as well," Modi tweeted.

He said he prays for his good health and extends best wishes in ensuring a healthy UK.

Johnson said on Friday that he has tested positive for coronavirus after experiencing mild symptoms and is now self-isolating at 10 Downing Street in line with the medical advice.

"I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government's response via video-conference as we fight this virus," he said.
