RSS ‘upset, angry’ over BJP leaders’ conduct

Mumbai, Jul 16: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is said to be "very angry and upset" over the growing tendency of BJP leaders to make uncalled for and controversial remarks that only serve to tarnish the party's image.

Whether it is the Akash Vijayvargiya episode or the remarks of Sadhvi Pragya or the recent controversy over BJP MLA Rajesh Misra's daughter, the Sangh is worried that such incidents are making the BJP lose its USP of being a "party with a difference".

"The BJP was always known as a 'party with a difference' but some of the leaders are destroying the party's image. The BJP leadership should now go beyond issuing warnings. Time has come to strict action against such MPs and MLAs.

"Our government at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh have a very comfortable majority and a few numbers less will not make a difference," said a senior RSS functionary.

The Sangh Parivar is particularly upset over the recent controversy involving BJP MLA Rajesh Misra's daughter's marriage with a Dalit youth.

"This one episode has undone our efforts at establishing 'samajik samrasta' social harmony and bringing Dalits into the Hindu mainstream.

"The MLA should have accepted the marriage and not projected an anti-Dalit stand. What will he do now that the High Court has confirmed the validity of the marriage?" he asked.

The new political conspiracy angle to the Bareilly marriage has further demolished the BJP's image.

The RSS feels that if the party leadership had taken action on party leaders who have been making controversial statements, the trend would have been checked.

He said that the RSS, "which normally does not interfere in the working of the BJP", will now take up the issue with the party leadership and suggest remedial measures before the situation goes out of control.

"The behaviour of some BJP leaders is against the philosophy of 'sanskar' (virtues), 'samrasta' (harmony) and 'samuhikta' (oneness) which the Sangh practices and preaches," the functionary said.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh's "go to Pakistan" statement, former Union Minister Mahesh Sharma referring to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as "Pappu ki Pappi" and former Minister Maneka Gandhi's remark that development is only for Muslims who vote for her, have upset the Sangh.

The RSS is particularly upset with Ballia MLA Surendra Singh who now has a history of making objectionable statements.

From claiming that Muslims have 50 wives and 1,050 children, to calling unprintable names to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and then saying that the Bareilly couple's marriage was driven by "lust" -- Surendra Singh has said it all.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state chief Mahendra Nath Pandey have remained mute spectators to Singh's statement and not even a word of warning has been issued to him.

Former MP Nepal Singh said that there was no need to grieve over the deaths of army personnel because "when they join the service, they know they are bound to die."

BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj is another leader, who is known to kick up controversies with his statements.

He claimed that all madarasas are "nurseries for terrorists", and then said that "we are ready to kill and get killed to protect cow mother".

Sakshi Maharaj said that the Dadri lynching victim was given Rs 20 lakh because he happened to be a Muslim. He also claimed during elections that if the Modi government returns to power, there will be no more elections in the country.

"The anti-Muslim statements are a violation of the Modi government's slogan of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" and also demolish the Prime Minister's efforts to bring Muslims into the BJP fold," the RSS functionary said.

Mangaluru, May 31: Karnataka BJP president MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has claimed that there has been no differences of opinion within the state BJP.

"The BJP-led government will complete its term under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa," Kateel told media persons in the city on Saturday.

“A few MLAs had met and discussed the developments in North Karnataka. There is nothing wrong in discussing development keeping in mind the party's interests.”

Indiscipline within the party will not be tolerated. Strict action will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities by the party High Command, he warned.

The government, led by Yediyurappa, has carried out good works in the state. All the MLAs are supporting the chief minister. All the MLAs are in contact with me, claimed Kateel.

Mangaluru, June 13:  The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru City Police, which is digging up old cases involving underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, has now launched a fresh probe into the murder of human rights lawyer Naushad Kashimji.

Kashimji was gunned down on April 9, 2009 at the basement of his apartment in Falnir in Mangaluru. Ravi Pujari had allegedly ordered the hit.

As part of investigation, a team from Benglauru CCB has come to Mangaluru. CCB sleuths, who obtained Pujari’s police custody in connection with this case, are tying up the loose ends pertaining to the murder of Kashimji who was representing D-Company hitman Abdul Rashid Hassan Malbari aka Malbari.

Pujari was said to be unhappy over Kashimji representing Malbari. Pujari had also allegedly issued life threats, directing him to desist from doing so.

Kashimji had reportedly received more than 10 international threat calls from March 30 to April 9 (the day he was murdered). According to a senior police officer, the advocate had not informed the police or his then senior Purushottam Poojary about receiving the threat calls. “This came to light when police went through his call records later,” the officer explained.

“CCB team is primarily focusing on Pujari’s role in the advocate’s sensational murder,” a senior CCB officer handling the investigating said.

“We have also lined up other cases in which Pujari is allegedly involved, but had filed the chargesheet against him in absentia as he was then a fugitive,” the officer added. The team is now picking up threads of Pujari’s involvement cases in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Pujari, currently in police custody in Bengaluru, is accused in more than 30 cases reported in Mangaluru from 2007 to 2018. Majority of the cases against Pujari pertain to extortion and extending death threats, one relating to murder, three to shootings/ abduction and one where he supplied money to his henchmen in prison. Police have filed ‘C’ report in 17 out of 28 threat call cases and ‘B’ report in one case. Rest are in different stages of trial.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Tuesday criticised BJP-led Karnataka government for limiting or omitting various topics including chapters on 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali.

Speaking to media here at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, Shivakumar said Congress will not allow BJP government in Karnataka to "divert history".

"Tipu Sultan does not belong to one caste or a class. He is part of the history of this country. BJP government has removed chapters related to him for its political advantage. It is their decision whether they celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti or not, but he is part of our history.

The President of this country Ramnath Kovind came to the Vidhan Sabha and praised Tipu's patriotism during a joint session," Shivakumar said.

"The BJP government has come to power today. Our history should not change. We will not let these people to covert or dilute history. This is the stand of the Congress party. Our experts will study the pros and cons of this decision," he added.

Shivakumar further said many countries around the world have praised the Constitution, Indian history and expressed their willingness to "adapt it".

"But the BJP is trying to curtail this. We need to educate our children. Our team will also study this and we will not let this happen," he said.
The Karnataka government, in a bid to reduce the syllabus for state board schools by 30 per cent, has limited or omitted various topics including chapters on Mysuru rulers Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan from the class 7 social science textbook.

The reduction in syllabus comes as schools are closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state, and classes have been moved online.
The Department of Public Instruction of the Karnataka government also limited or removed various other topics from the syllabus of class 6 to 10 as they were repeated or can be alternatively taught.

Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had revised the syllabus for the classes IX to XII for the academic session 2020-21 in a "one-time measure" owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
