Mangaluru, Aug 5: Sangh Parivar activists have threatened to launch a hunger strike in the city and taluk headquarters in Dakshina Kannada district on August 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to press the government to arrest those behind the murder of RSS activist Sharath Madiwala in B.C. Road a month ago.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Vishwa Hindu Parishat, the Bajrang Dal, the Hindu Jagarana Vedike and other allied organisations will participate in it, according to K. Monappa Bhandary, former MLC. Talking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Bhandary said despite setting up a special investigation team the district police have so far not arrested any person.

While police arrested persons involved in the murder of Karopady Gram Panchayat Vice-President Zalil Karopady (in April) and Mohammed Ashraf or Ashraf Kalai (on June 26) quickly, Mr. Bhandary said that they were taking a long time to trace the accused in this case.

“Our police are competent and professional. There seems to be some pressure that’s preventing them from acting against the accused persons,” he alleged.

Vishwa Hindu Parishat Dakshina Kannada unit president Jagadish Shenva alleged that the frequent transfer of police officials in the district showed the lack of seriousness of the State government into the investigation of the murder.

Tumakuru, Jun 30: As many as 43 sheep were quarantined after a shepherd tested positive for novel coronavirus at Godekere Gollarahatti in Tumakuru district.

J C Madhuswamy, district in-charge minister, has instructed the district administration and the Animal Husbandry department to subject the sheep to Covid-19 tests.

The move followed after five sheep found dead in mysterious circumstances at the village. All 43 sheep of the infected person have been isolated from the herd and kept at a place in Jakkanahalli.

"There is no evidence that the sheep can contract Covid-19 and transmit the virus to the people. But since the virus has many strains and keep changing its genetic make-up, draw throat swab samples of the sheep and send the same to Covid-19 lab. Till the report comes, keep the livestock in isolation," Madhuswamy told the officials.

Bengaluru, Apr 8: In another incident of health staff involved in coronavirus containment facing trouble, two ASHA workers were allegedly manhandled at Kudachi in Belagavi district in Karnataka on Tuesday while undertaking a survey following detection of four COVID-19 cases with Tablighi links in the area, police said.

The district authorities have intensified door-to-door survey in Kudachi after four people who had attended the Tablighi Jamat religious conference in New Delhi last month tested positive for coronavirus in nearby Raibagh.

“Today when two ASHA workers went to Kudachi, some miscreants snatched away their phones. We are investigating whether they were beaten up also,” a police officer investigating the matter told PTI.

A few days ago, four ASHA workers here were manhandled when they went for a door-to-door survey and police have arrested five people from a minority community. They have been remanded to judicial custody by a court.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had on Monday condemned incidents of attacks on doctors and health department workers and sought protection for them.
