Bengaluru, Aug 13: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has assured Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa of full cooperation from him and that of his party in the state government's efforts towards rebuilding the lives of those affected in flood and rain ravaged parts Karnataka.

In a letter to Yediyurappa, the JD(S) patriarch also wished success to all programmes or relief work undertaken by the state government for the betterment of flood victims.

Referring to the destruction caused by the rains, floods and landslides in different parts of the state and relief measures undertaken by the administration, Gowda said in addition to rescuing, providing relief and rehabilitation to those affected should be the priority of any government.

"But managing a disaster of such a magnitude is a difficult task, and there may be some errors and omissions," he said.

Stating that without mixing politics in such a situation, he said rushing to the help of those affected is the duty of every "Kannadiga."

"It is my advice that administrations at both state and district level be made active, and experienced and pragmatic officials appointed to oversee relief and rescue works."

"I have also got to know through the media regarding you (CM) alone touring the affected areas, also about cooperation that you are getting from the officials," he said, adding that it is difficult for the state government alone to manage such large-scale relief work.

Gowda further pointed out that against this background he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in which he has urged the Centre to release Rs 5,000 crore as interim relief to flood-ravaged Karnataka and to notify it as "National Calamity".

However, the Karnataka government has requested the Centre to immediately release Rs 3,000 crore.

A total of 2,217 villages in 86 taluks of 17 districts have been affected due to floods and rains in the State, where 1,224 relief camps have been opened giving shelter for nearly four lakh people.

The rain fury has left 48 persons dead in the State, while 16 are missing.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Within hours after claiming that it has decided to prohibit schools from schools from conducting online classes till Class 7, the Karnataka government has taken a U-turn and said that currently than ban is only till Class 5.

“Karnataka Govt has decided to stop all online classes for LKG, UKG & classes up to 5th std. To extend this up to 7th std is only a suggestion from few cabinet ministers as expressed in an informal discussion and NOT a decision,” tweeted Prime and Secondary Minister Suresh Kumar.

Law Minister J C Madhuswamy earlier today had stated that the decision to ban online classes till 7th standard was taken by the government.  "All of us were of the opinion that there were challenges faced by students studying in rural areas. Hence, we urged the government to extend the ban on online classes till 7 standard," he said

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that when COVID-19 has made life and livelihoods difficult, it is unfortunate that charges have been levelled of irregularities in the procurement of COVID-19 equipment.

"The Congress which has levelled charges against the ruling BJP has not so far filed a complaint with any investigating agency. Instead, the Congress has limited itself to getting publicity. On the other hand, the ruling BJP instead of coming clean by ordering a probe into the main charges is indirectly admitting the scam," Kumaraswamy said on Sunday.

"By washing dirty linen in public, both the Congress and the BJP are playing a cruel joke on people instead of protecting their lives," he said.

Hitting out at the BJP, he asked, "Why is it that the BJP is not ordering an investigation into the Rs 2,000 crore Covid 19 corruption charges levelled against the government by the Congress? Why is the government keeping quiet on the corruption charges?"

He said, "Is this the leadership provided by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa? There could be political pressure on seeking resignation of his Ministers. But why has no action been initiated against any officers? Is there any effort to destroy the evidence by retaining officers in their existing postings?"

"Hunger for publicity is evident when we look at the press conference by five Ministers at a time," he said.

The government has countered the charges of the Congress but backtracked on ordering an investigation, he said.

"Would this not give rise to suspicion that the government is involved in the scam?" he asked.

He also asked why Congress leaders have not filed a complaint before any investigating agency despite "possessing documents to prove the charges".

"Are the Congress leaders trying to get publicity or are they concerned about the welfare of the people? The Congress Legislative Party leader is seeking an account (Lekka Kodi) while the BJP president is seeking answers (Uttara Kodi). Is it enough to give such questions and answers?"

Is there a concrete legal plan to deal with the irregularities? he asked.

"Looking at the way the Congress leaders have addressed media conferences and taken to social media campaigns, it appears that they are trying to get publicity," he said.
