Safeguard the image of Dakshina Kannada: KSCW to govt.

Bangalore, August 8: The Karnataka State Commission for Women, which had lashed out at Mangalore police for their failure to prevent the July 28 attack on Morning Mist homestay, has now advised the administration to take measures to safeguard the image of Dakshina Kannada.

KSCW chairperson C Manjula, who has prepared a five-page report after paying a visit to the spot last week, reiterated that it was a brutal incident which has left a scar on the victims.

She also said that the priority should be to help the victims of the attack to recover emotionally and psychologically.

She said that the Commission has suggested the government take long-term measures so that the image of the coastal district is not sullied further. Police have a pivotal role in preventing the recurrence of such incidents.

Ms Manjula has sought action against local police. "Subhash Padil is a habitual offender. Why didn't the police keep a vigil on him?'' she asked.

“Police action should be impartial, while the administration should ensure the rights of citizens are not violated,'' she said.

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Private hospitals cannot send back COVID-19 patients for any reason, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said on Monday.

The Minister was addressing a meeting at the Father Muller Medical College here on the arrangements made for COVID-19 patients.

Dakshina Kannada district is quite advanced in the medical field. Hence, the government will not tolerate COVID-19 patients wandering from one hospital to another for treatment. Refusing to admit COVID-19 patients in hospitals is unacceptable, he warned.

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) Managing Director Mohammed Nazir on Wednesday said that 13 Schools in eight wards, here, will be upgraded under the Area Based Development (ABD) of the Smart City Mission (SCM).

Mr. Nazir, in a statement, said that the Schools selected include Government Higher Primary School Car Street, Bastigarden, Neereshwalya, Hoigebazar Lower Primary School, Government Practicing HS, Balmatta Primary School, Balmatta Secondary School, Bunder Higher Primary School (Urdu), Bunder Government High School (Urdu) and Bolara East Government Primary School.

These Smart Schools will have IT-enabled interactive teaching and learning tools, computer labs and open reading plazas.

Ramanagara, May 15: Flouting all social distancing norms, people gathered in large numbers for a village temple fair in Karnataka's Ramanagara district.

On Thursday, people in large numbers came out on a road to participate in the fair. Attendees took permission for gathering from Panchayat Development Officer NC Kalmatt.

According to a Tehsildar official, Kalmatt was suspended by Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner for granting permission for the gathering.

People have been advised to wear mask in public space and maintain social distancing to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.
