Saffron activist held for sexual assault on school girl

Kasaragod, Oct 17: A 23-year-old man was arrested on the charge of sexual assault on a minor student under the Badiadukka police station limits in Kasaragod district.

The accused has been identified as Rajesh (23), a resident of Pilankatta, near Badiadukka. He is said to be a saffron activist.

Police have booked him under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The District Sessions Court here remanded him in judicial custody for two weeks.

The accused reportedly abused the girl, belonging to the Scheduled Castes, for over two years.

The incident came to light when the girl refused to go to school after the Onam recess saying that she is suffering from stomach ache. Inquiries made by her teachers and the Childline revealed that the girl was subjected to sexual assault.

A medical examination confirmed that the girl was pregnant.

Mysuru, Mar 6: A woman was murdered by her husband in front of her father in the wee hours of Friday at her home in Hosakamanakoppal, Yelwal hobli here, police said on Friday.

The police said the deceased is Mamatha, a native of Periyapatna who was married to Nagesh of Hosakamanakoppal about seven years ago. The couple has a six-year-old son. Mamatha was Nagesh’s second wife as his first wife had allegedly committed suicide.

It is said that Nagesh was addicted to liquor and gambling and used to fight with Mamatha over petty reasons. 

Yesterday night too, there was a fight between the couple and Mamatha’s father pacified both of them and all of them went to sleep later.

Mysuru, Mar 8: The 'Shuka Vana' (Parrots Museum), in the sprawling Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama here, will remain closed for 15 days from March 9 as a precautionary measure following COVID-19, Ashram authorities said here on Sunday.

Ashram authorities told UNI that the Museum will be closed due to threat of spread of Coronavirus. This is for the first time that the Museum has been closed for such a long time earlier it had closed for one or two days due to bird flu. The decision has been taken following the tourists and devotees including foreigners are arriving to Ashram in large numbers.

The ashram authorities have also closed famous The Kishkinda Moolika Bonsai garden on-premises for same reason.

Bengaluru, May 31: As many as 299 fresh covid-19 cases reported in Karnataka today. Most of them have interstate travel history.

With this total number of covid-19 cases in Karnataka rose to 3221. 

District wise cases: Raichur 83, Yadgir 44, Bidar 33, Kalaburagi 28, Vijayapura 26, Bengaluru Urban 21, Dakshina Kannada 14, Mandya 13, Belagavi 13, Udupi 10, Davangere 6, Uttara Kannada 5, Ballari, Shivamogga, Kolar 1 each.

Two more deaths reported in the state. One of the patients is a 50 year old male from Raichuru district, who returned from Maharashtra. Another is a 75 year old man, a resident of containment zone in Bidar. With this the number of COVID 19 related deaths rose to 51.
