Mangaluru, Sep 4: The decision of the principal of a govern first grade college in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada to maintain status quo in allowing to wear head scarf or hijab to Muslim girls on the campus has irked the saffron agitators, who have threatened continue their protest.

In a meeting of the members of the college development committee and the parent teachers' association on Saturday, the principal Chandrashekar Kantamangala made it clear he would not snatch the right of Muslim girl students to wear scarf.

Some undergraduate and postgraduate students of Dr Shivaram Karanth Government First Grade College, Peruvaje, in Sullia have been coming to college since August 29 sporting saffron shawls. The students, who apparently vow allegiance to Hindutva groups, want the college to bar a lecturer and some Muslim girls from wearing a hijab on the campus.

Despite the advice of principal and other staff members to stop politicizing the scarf issue, the students backed by saffron groups have been continuing to wear saffron shawl in the campus.

Sullia MLA S Angara, who chaired the meeting held on the college campus on Saturday, left it to the principal and the staff members to resolve the issue. He asked the Principal to convene a meeting of lecturers and protesting students on Tuesday and resolve the issue.

While some parents having links with Sangh Parivar reportedly supported the conduct of protesting students, others expressed unhappiness over the demand. A holiday had been given on Saturday to students to avoid a possible commotion during the meeting.

Earlier, speaking to media persons Mr Kantamangala said that some students were being misled by political forces. “This college has been functioning for over two decades. I don't know why this issue cropped up in the college where a majority of students are from poor financial background.” He said there are a few students and a lecturer, who come to college wearing a headscarf.

Meanwhile, a former principal of the college said the college had been facing problems from Hindutva organizations, which are “interfering in the affairs of the college.”

Dear Brother K K. Acharya,
You have said well. We need more people like you from your community to talk fairly and boldly.

May God bless you Sir.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My dear Hindu brothers and sisters,
Try to learn at least few basics of few main religions around us.
First of religion means the way of our daily life from cradle to grave.

- Therefore the life to be lead as per the commandments of God but not as per our individual wish.
- Within the bounds and flexibility of the religion we can have our choices in dress, food and many other parts of life.
- As long as we don't transgress the bounds and norms of commandments of the God, everything is admissible.

The basic teaching of Islam
- Islam has come to this universe as Ultimate and the only Guide for humankind until the existence of this world. The God Almighty says this is the only acceptable religion.
- Therefore all the Muslims have been commanded to convey this religion to everyone, Unfortunately very few Muslims do this job and most of them don't do it. Therefore Muslims are held responsible for failing to do this job of conveying the truth. Muslims will face the consequences for their failure of non-compliance to the Creator's commandments.

- But it is not yet all allowed to IMPOSE BY FORCE.

If the people choose wrong faith, they are solely responsible with their CREATOR.

Very simple and straight command

Dears,
Muslim girls are wearing hijab as a part of religious requirement. No need to make your face red. Simple solution. You wear Red shawl & Hindu girls can wear orange scarf. Muslims will never oppose. Islam is a religion of Tolerance.

Why the hell you want to ban scarf? Let them wear. What you are going to lose? If you want ask your sisters and mother not to wear. But stop poking nose everywhere. You people are a major threat to peaceful Hindu religion. Hindus are ashamed of these saffron goons.

The covid-19 lockdown has thrown wedding plans in disarray in coastal Karnataka like all other activities involving a crowd of people. While many people chose to postpone the scheduled and about to be scheduled weddings, some are going ahead with scheduled plans and holding weddings with no more than 50 guests as per the guidelines issued by the government of Karnataka.

The government may relax the norms and allow participation of more guests in the future. However, holding wedding ceremonies will be a new challenge when people are returning to a ‘new normalcy.’ Compared to the traditional wedding ceremonies of the region, marriages in the time of Covid-19 are expected to be smaller as the organizers have to adhere to the safety protocol and safe distancing norms. Given this situation, to limit risks and ensure safety, families now will have to consider wedding planners to help them celebrate their weddings.

“The postponed weddings will take place in the coming days as the lockdown is being relaxed in a phased manner. However, it won’t be like our traditional weddings. There won’t be 3000 guests.  Government directives will be have followed. We expect change in trend from big fat weddings to a small, close family, picture perfect weddings,” says Sartaj Beary, Managing Partner, Zawaj Weddings and Events.

“Our curetted packages will take care of wedding invitations, outdoor venue, premium catering, bridal make up, mehendi function, photography, videography, décor, thermal scanning systems, hand sanitizers and N 95 masks etc. We hope with our experiences we can offer stress free celebration to the families while we plan everything from scratch as per client requirement,” he assures.

“Ultimately, our society has to adopt an innovative way of marriage. At this point, we can say that any wedding in 2020 will look different as the novel coronavirus has disrupted the weddings everywhere. We know it is a big milestone for families and we at Zawaj are here to assure families that we can help a stress free wedding,” he adds.

New Normal Era Weddings

In the ‘new normal era’, weddings across the world will be totally different from what we used to see before the pandemic. People need to be cautious while attending mass gathering and it is important. Gone are the days of closed AC venues. Outdoor weddings will be the future, where seating are spread out and space between tables, stage, food counters will be maximum as per  safe distancing protocols.

Wedding planners and caterers will have to ensure systematic safety protocol, safe and responsible operations, preparation of the food, event crew and vendors safe zone, sanitized kitchen, transportations. Even buffet settings will change to include smaller but multiple cuisines, self serving stations, markings on line to maintaining safe distance at the food counters.

More importantly, venue has to be prepared as per the government instructions. Things like disinfection and sanitization, hygiene, ample toilet facilities, hand wash, thermometer scans, masks, sanitizing stations should be taken care of. People from all walks of life will embrace this form of marriage. The services of wedding planners will be most opted in future.

Bengaluru, Feb 22: Student activist Amulya Leona, who was arrested on sedition charge after she raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans during an anti-CAA event at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on Thursday evening, has now criticised the organisers of the event for snatching away microphone from her hand.

The event was organised by ‘Hindu Muslim Sikh Isaai Federation’. Soon after she started pro-Pak slogans All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi rushed and tried to snatch mic from her hand. When she continued to speak, her microphone was deactivated.

According to police, the 19-year-old BA journalism student blamed her predicament on the organisers of the protest for not allowing her to complete what she wanted to say on stage.

"Maybe she had intended to say what she had recently posted on her Facebook page where she has said ‘Zindabad’ to all the countries, including India and Pakistan. But it went awry. She was not answering any of our questions, but kept saying she had not done anything wrong," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by a news paper.

The police have booked Leona for sedition and promoting enmity between groups. After her arrest, she was thoroughly questioned by the police for over two hours. After recording her statement, the police produced her before a magistrate in the wee hours of Friday. When she was taken to the judge’s residence, located at the National Games Village in Koramangala, Leona pointed towards the TV cameras and flashed a victory sign.

As the police did not seek her custody, the judge remanded her to judicial custody and she was subsequently taken to Bengaluru Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara. Her advocate is expected to file a bail application in the court on Monday.

When the police took her into custody at Freedom Park and quizzed her, she reportedly did not answer any of their questions but kept insisting that she had not done anything anti-national to be charged with sedition.

"It was the organisers’ mistake to snatch the mike from me before I completed what I had to say. Because of them, I have been arrested today. If they had given me a chance to complete what I had to say, nothing like this would have happened. Now, there is no point in telling you what I intended to speak there. But I can say that there was nothing anti-national in what I did. You can initiate action against me and my advocate will fight the case," a source, citing Leona, said.

The police recorded whatever she said as her voluntary statement and submitted it to the magistrate. "We tried to find out why she did what she did and whether there was anyone else behind her making such a statement. But it appears she had done it on her own," the police official said.
