Sajid A K elected president of Highland Islamic Forum

Mangaluru, Feb 9: Businessman Sajid A K, was unanimously elected the president of city-based Highland Islamic Forum on Saturday, Feb 9, during its annual general body meeting (AGM) held at HIF Head office, Mangaluru.

The AGM was started with Quran recitation by brother Mehfuz. The programme was chaired by the outgoing President Nazim SS and the Election Commissioner Mr Arif Padubidri.

Outgoing President Nazim SS welcomed the gathering and presented a brief report about H.I.F and all its activities from its inception. He also thanked the executive committee and all members of the H.I.F for their tremendous support throughout his tenure requested the gathering to extend the same support to the new president and the committee.

Soon after the welcome note, Mr Arif Padubidri spoke a few words on his thoughts on H.I.F and his connection with the organisation. He also shed some light on choosing the right leader and its impact on an organisation.

The newly elected president Sajid Ak, showed his gratitude to the Allah for giving him an opportunity to lead the H.I.F team and promised to be available with the members at any given time. He vowed to give his fullest for the betterment of the organisation. 

Ausaf Hussain was announced the Secretary of H.I.F. Mohammed Rizwan was elected treasurer.

Mangaluru, May 1: Dakshina Kannada on Friday two more positive cases of coronavirus in the district, taking the total number of cases to 24.

According to the state health bulletin, the 62-year old husband of the 58-year old woman of Boloor who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, also tested positive for the virus.

Another 69-year old patient hailing from Kasaba in Bantwal Taluk also tested positive for the infection.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday accused the BJP government, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, of showing discrimination in distribution of relief material to those affected by the lockdown, clamped to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus, by favouring constituencies represented by the ruling BJP Legislators.

Despite that, the party intends to extend full cooperation to the government during this hour of crisis without indulging in politics, it urged the administration to be “transparent”.

''We have had our (Congress) Task Force meeting today, during which we discussed several matters. There is a lot of difference between the government's talk and its deeds,'' KPCC President D K Shivakumar said.

Mysuru, Jul 19: Residents in the vicinity of the Chamundeshwari temple alleged VVIP racism against the administration for allowing BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje for a special visit there on Friday.

Even though the district collector had ordered the closure of temple visits due to the COVID pandemic, an exception was made for VVIPs.
The BJP leader claimed that she visited the temple on Thursday evening but the temple officials confirmed that she visited the temple on Friday at 7 am. It is her routine every year to visit the temple on the last Friday of Ashada Masa.

Locals, who tried get darshan of Chamundi Devi, were barred by the police leading to an altercation between locals and cops at the entrance to the temple.

Ashada Masa is considered an auspicious occasion and it is a belief among politicians that for the longevity of their political career, they need to visit Chamundeshwari temple every last Friday of Ashada Masa.
