New Delhi, Apr 5: Actor Salman Khan, convicted and sentenced to five years in prison in a blackbuck poaching case, will not receive any special treatment during his stay in jail, Jodhpur DIG (Prisons) Vikram Singh said today.

Singh added that Khan had made no demands or special requests - including for drinking water.

"Salman Khan has been given number 106 and is lodged in ward number two. He was made to undergo medical test and has no medical issues," said Singh.

The actor will receive his jail uniform tomorrow.

The senior officer said that he did not want the actor to be left alone, even as he referred to Khan as someone "who does not seem easily scared."

"Multiple-layer security has been put up for his ward."
Singh shared that the actor expressed a special affinity for Rajasthan, which, Khan purportedly said, would "not suffer" despite the conviction.

The 52-year-old actor's bail plea hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. His lawyer can meet him in jail any time.

A Jodhpur trial court today found Khan guilty in a 1998 poaching case, while it acquitted co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu.

Jodhpur District Presiding Officer Devkumar Khatri pronounced Salman guilty of killing two blackbucks - an endangered species - during a hunting expedition near Jodhpur. A penalty of Rs 10,000 was also levied on him.

The actors were accused of hunting down the animals in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of October 1 and 2, 1998, when they were in the city shooting for the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.

Khan had earlier pleaded innocence in the case, claiming before the court that the blackbuck died of "natural causes" and that he was being "framed".

This is the last of the three poaching cases against the actor from 1998 being heard at Jodhpur trial court. He was convicted in two poaching cases by the trial court, only to be acquitted by the Rajasthan high court later.

Kabul, May 11: Four back-to-back roadside bombs exploded in a northern district of Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Monday, wounding four civilians including a child, police said. Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz said a clearance team was at the site of the attacks.

Militants have carried out several roadside bombings and rocket attacks in Kabul and other parts of the country in recent weeks, but Monday's four consecutive explosions appeared to be the first coordinated effort for some months.

The Taliban has not carried out any large attacks in the city since they signed a landmark withdrawal deal with the US in February, meant to pave the way for peace in the country. No group has claimed the attacks. The explosions come as authorities are trying to impose a lockdown in the capital to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Jaipur, Jul 14: In a show of strength, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot-led Rajasthan Congress camp on Monday released a video showing at least 16 MLAs sitting together.

This comes hours after the Congress held a legislature party meeting. Party leaders said 106 of 122 MLAs attended, a claim contested by the Pilot camp.

The 10-second video was shared late at night on Pilot's official WhatsApp group.

In the video, at least 16 MLAs are seen sitting together in a close circle. Pilot is not seen in the video.

Six other people can be seen in the video but they could not be identified.

Some of the MLAs seen in the video are Indraraj Gurjar, Mukesh Bhakar, Harish Meena.

Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh tweeted the video with the caption "Family".

Ladnun MLA Mukesh Bhakar tweeted, "...Loyalty in Congress means Ashok Gehlot's slavery. That is not acceptable to us."

Pilot has been upset since he was denied the Rajasthan chief minister's post after the December 2018 assembly elections.

On Sunday, he claimed to have the backing of 30 Congress MLAs and "some independents".

Those close to him disputed Gehlot's claim that his government had a majority, and said this is proven in the assembly and not at the CM's house.

Sources close to him have also ruled out the possibility of Pilot joining the BJP.

In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, the Congress has 107 MLAs and the BJP 72. In the past, the ruling party has claimed the support of 13 independents, two MLAs each from the CPM and the Bharatiya Tribal Party, and one from the Rashtriya Lok Dal.
