Samastha Kerala leader Cherusseri Zainuddin Musliar passes away

Malappuram, Feb 19: Noted Shariath scholar and Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Cherusseri Zainuddin Musliar, 79, died at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Thursday.

CherusserHe was buried at Darul Huda Islamic University complex, Chemmad, where he had taught Shariat laws for 25 years. Thousands of people from different walks of life paid tributes to him. His body was brought first to his home at Kondotty and later to Darul Huda Islamic University, Chemmad. Senior religious leaders led the funeral prayers held at every 30 minutes.

Zainuddin Musliar was the general secretary of the Samastha, the State’s largest Muslim body, since the death of E.K. Aboobacker Musliar in 1996. He was Pro-Chancellor of Darul Huda since it was upgraded as a university.

He was elected to Samastha Mushawara, the supreme scholarly body of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, in 1980. He was also the Fatwa committee chairman of the Samastha.

Among those who paid tributes to Zainuddin Musliar were Samastha treasurer Sayed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, Alikutty Musliar, Haj Committee chairman T.M. Bapu Musliar, Sayed Munawwarali Shihab Thangal, Kozhikode Kazi Sayed Mohammed Koya Jamalullaili, Darul Huda Vice Chancellor Bahauddin Nadvi, industrialist M.A. Yusufali, M.I. Shanavas, MP, District Panchayat president A.P. Unnikrishnan, Minority Commission chairman A. Veerankutty, scholars Najeeb Moulavi, C.P. Umer Sullami, E.K. Ahamed Kutty, and Shaikh Mohammed Karakunnu.

He is survived by four children.

Mangaluru, May 18: The coastal city of Mangaluru and other parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are receiving heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder.

The rain, which started in the wee hours, continued to lash for hours. It brought much relief from the sweltering heat.

Waterlogged roads in different parts of Mangaluru cause inconvenience to motorists. The clouds were so dark that the drivers were forced to switch on the headlights while driving vehicles in the morning.

The IMD has predicted heavy rain in the coastal Karnataka for next two days.

Lighting claims a life

Meanwhile, a youth died after lightning struck him at Paduyenagudde in Katpadi of Udupi district on Sunday late night. The deceased was identified as Bharat. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he failed to respond to the treatment.

Bengaluru, Jun 15: After a three-month delay, seven-time MLA and former state minister DK Shivakumar, who has been appointed as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, will take charge on July 2 at a simple function at the new party office here.

Mr Shivakumar was appointed as KPCC president on March 11.

Party sources said on Monday that Shivakumar plans to take charge of the party through a “pratijna dina” (pledge day) ceremony that would be telecast live to 7,800 locations across the state and over 10 lakh party workers are expected to attend it virtually.

Kalaburagi, Apr 20: With no COVID-19 case reported here on Sunday, the total number of virus-infected people in the district stood at 22.

While three persons have succumbed to the infection in the district so far, three others have been cured and discharged.

"No COVID-19 case was reported in Kalaburagi district today. Total 22 positive cases and 3 deaths have been reported in the district till date. Three persons have been cured," said District Magistrate B. Sharat.

Karnataka's total count of coronavirus patients has surged to 390, said the State Health Department on Sunday.

"Six new cases have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the State from 5 pm on Saturday till 5 pm on Sunday. Cumulatively, 390 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state," it said.
