Sand availability will improve in a month: minister

Bengaluru, Jun 10: Sand availability in the state will improve in the coming days with the state government taking steps to streamline the process of sand blocks allocation, Mines and Geology Minister Vinay Kulkarni informed the Legislative Council on Friday.sandmine

Replying to M?B?Bhanu¬prakash (BJP), the minister said the Mines and Geology department has identified 322 sand blocks across the state. Of these, the process of allocation through a tendering process had been completed for 222 blocks. Sand extraction had commenced in 11blocks. The allocation of the remaining 100 blocks will be completed within one month, he said.

The BJP?members staged a dharna for some time stating that the state government had failed to rein in the sand mafia. Leader of the Opposition K?S?Eshwarappa said officials of the forest, mines, police and transport departments were hand in glove in illegal extraction and transportation of sand.

An attempt on the lives of a deputy commissioner and an assistant commissioner had been made by the sand mafia when they raided illegal sand mining units operating in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district recently, he pointed out.

He demanded that the government make available sand at a uniform price across the state. The members withdrew their dharna following an assurance by the minister that availability of sand will improve within a month.?He said real time monitoring of vehicles with GPS devices had been introduced on a pilot basis in Davangere, Haveri, Gadag and Shivamogga and will be extended to other districts. He said the state government has collected Rs 532.01 crore from sand auctions in the past three years.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: Karnataka government has issued a show-cause notice to 18 private hospitals for refusing to admit a 52-year-old patient with influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms, who later died.

According to the notice dated on June 30, a 52-years patient named Bhawarlal Sujani died after he was denied admission by 18 private hospitals.

The patient was taken to these hospitals on Saturday and Sunday for admission on observing some ILI like symptoms. But none of these hospitals admitted in on the pretext of unavailability of bed/ventilators, read the notice.

This is a clear violation of providing medical assistance and admission necessitated under the agreed provision of KPME Registration. They should strictly adhere to the provisions under Sections 11 & 11 A of KPME Act 2017. Private Medical Establishments cannot deny/ refuse/ avoid treatment to patients with Covid-19 and Covid-19 like symptoms, the state Health Department said.

By denying the admission to the deceased patient, your hospitals have violated the provisions of the above-said act. You are liable for legal action in this regard, as per the notice.

The state Health department asked the hospitals to reply as to why action should not be initiated under the relevant Acts.

Bengaluru, Apr 30: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, has directed the Bengaluru City Police to return all the vehicles, which were seized during the Coronavirus Lockdown period, for having flouted rules.

The City Police Commissioner, Bhaskar Rao, informed that it was decided to return the seized vehicles to the owners, after verifying documents.

He said that the vehicles had been seized while enforcing strict guidelines, issued to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, in the city.

Bengaluru, Apr 28: There are a total of 523 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, Department of Health and Family Welfare of Karnataka informed on Tuesday.
It informed that there are 295 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 207 patients have been discharged, 20 deaths have been reported.

According to a district-wise breakup, a maximum of 131 cases were reported from Bengaluru urban, followed by Mysuru with 87 cases and Belagavi with 52 cases.

India's total number of coronavirus positive cases rises to 29,974 (including 22010 active cases, 7027 cured/discharged/migrated and 937 deaths), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.
