Santosh Hegde, Padmaraja Dandavati, 11 others conferred Nudisiri Awards

Moodbidri, Dec 4: As many as thirteen achievers were conferred Nudisiri Awards during the valedictory ceremony of the 14th edition of the three day Alva’s Nudisiri held under the theme Foundations of Pluralism and organised by Alva’s Education Foundation in Moodbidri on Sunday.

The recipients of the award for the year 2017 are - Bellary Bishop Henry D’souza (art), Justice N Santosh Hegde (judicial system), Dr Tejaswi Kattimani (literature), Dr Siddhalinga Pattana Shetty (theatre), Prof K B Siddhayya (literature and activism), Prof G S Hanneradumatha (poetic literature), Dr B Surendra Rao (research), Dr M Prabhakara Joshi (Yakshagana), Girish Bharadhwaj (social service), Padmaraja Dandavati (journalism), Rathnamala Prakash (classical music), Thonse Vijay Kumar Shetty (theatre and vernacular film) and Laksminarayana Acharya (fine arts).

Replying to the felicitation, Dr Tejaswi Kattimani said "this is a lifetime felicitation. Dr Mohan Alva's creativity awes me. He has built an institution that will generate resourceful citizens for the country. The importance of co-curriculum is emphasised at Alva's like nowhere else. Dr Alva is an asset to the country."

Padmaraja Dandavathi said "Relentless work that contributes to the society always yields appreciation, as long as the work is honest and aims at public welfare. Karnataka has ample names that deserve such credit."

Bengaluru, Feb 12: Mohammed Nalapad, the rogue son of Karnataka Congress leader NA Harris, who is out on bail in a 2018 case of him bashing up a man at a pub, has now rammed his luxury car into vehicles, injuring four people on Bengaluru road.

The incident took place on Sunday on the Ballari Road where Nalapad was rash driving his car. The car hit a biker and an autorickshaw, injuring four people. He immediately got off his car and fled riding a friend's car.

The biker has suffered a fracture in his leg and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to police, soon after the accident a man appeared before police to claim responsibility for the accident.

Ravikante Gowde, Joint Commissioner of Police said, "A man named Balakrishna came to surrender as the one who was driving the car. Investigation has, however, showed that it was Nalapad who was driving when he met with the accident. The investigating officer has issued him a notice to appear before the police."

BJP spokesperson S Prakash has said, "A case under the Goonda Act should be filed against Nalapad and the court should take cognisance of this and cancel his bail. The father has no control over son. He is a serial offender who is harming the public on a repeated basis."

Nalapad was earlier arrested in 2018 in the Bengaluru pub incident in which he and his associate bashed up the son of a prominent businessman in the city. Nalapad Harris is out on bail after remaining in judicial custody for three months in the case of attempt to murder after the 2018 midnight brawl.

Kasaragod, June 14: Two teenagers lost their lives and two others sustained injuries after the car in which they were travelling veered off the road and turned turtle at Kumbla in Kasaragod district today. 

The deceased have been identified as Hussin (17), son of Abusalih-Hasina couple from Kumbala Badria Nagar and Hasan Midlaj (18) hailing from Talangara. 

The condition of Shahal, a resident of Moghal, is said to be critical. He was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. 

The accident occurred near Little Lilli English Medium School. High speed and rash driving are said to be reason for the crash. 

The Maruti Zen car veered off the road and rammed into a tree before turning turtle. There were four people on board the car. One died on the spot and the other at the hospital.

Mangaluru, June 5: A local businessman was hacked to death while two of his relatives suffered critical injuries in a broad daylight attack by a group of miscreants at Mulki on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Abdul Lateef (38). He was proprieter of Align Gold, Moodbidri. His wife is an advocate in Moodbidri. 

Abdul Lateef's father-in-law Muneer and latter's son Hayat suffered stab injuries. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru. 

The attack took place near the Vijaya Bank in Mulki. 

According to sources, a gang of miscreants stabbed all three. While Abudl Lateef succumbed to his injuries, the other two are responding to the treatment. 

Police have registered a case. Investigations are on.
