Saudi Arabia’s Misk Media Forum in Cairo aims to ‘empower the region’

Riyadh, Oct 26: The Misk Media Forum will take place in Cairo on Oct. 26. The forum is organized by the Initiatives Center of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz Foundation (Misk), which has billed the event as “an empowerment platform for eight startups set to take part.” The event will also feature 45 speakers from 12 different companies.

The eight featured startups come from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. All of them are focused on the creation or delivery of digital content for marketing and consulting services —  from animation and graphics, to audio effects, script writing and filmmaking. Examples of the work that will be showcased at the event include a platform that uses AI and machine learning to provide tailored adverts to passers-by.

The forum will offer workshops delivered by industry experts and pioneers, including “Smartphone journalism,” “Keeping up with the ever-changing digital marketing world,” “Smart revolution and the seventh art,” “The role of advertisers in supporting the new media industry,” “Monitoring social media platforms and using data to understand your users,” “The impact of podcasts,” “Crisis-management media,” “Media economics,” and “How to attract millions to watch 20 minutes of content every day.”

According to a press release, the Misk Media Forum “aims to raise awareness about media developments and solutions for individuals and societies in the younger generation, enable them to discover job opportunities in all media fields, accelerate the transfer of skills and modern technology to Arab youth, and empower the region to become a pioneer in the media-content industry.”

It will also discuss the impact of new media in the decision-making process in accordance with social needs and governments’ ability to build influential digital platforms.

Kuwait will allow citizens and residents to travel to and from the country, starting August 1, the government communication center tweeted on early Thursday, citing a cabinet decision.

The decision excludes residents coming from Bangladesh, Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Iran, Nepal.

Last month, Kuwait announced it would partially resume commercial flights from August, but does not expect to reach full capacity until a year later, as its aviation sector gradually recovers from a suspension sparked by the Covid-19 crisis.

Riyadh, Apr 24: As many as eleven Indian nationals have died due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia.

"As per information available with the Embassy as of April 22, eleven Indian nationals (four in Madinah, three in Makkah, two in Jeddah, one in Riyadh and one in Dammam) have passed away due to COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia," the Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia said in a press release on Wednesday.

It urged the Indian community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours amid the COVID-19 crisis.

"The Embassy also reiterates the need for the community to remain calm and avoid spreading of rumours that may create panic. It is important that social media is not used to disseminate false messages and spread hatred along communal lines that can vitiate the atmosphere," the Embassy said.

"As stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking, and our response and conduct should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood," it said.

Moreover, several measures on the supply of food, medicines and other emergency assistance to Indians in need are being implemented across the Kingdom.

Earlier, Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ausaf Sayeed on April 22 had interacted with Indian community volunteers from the smaller towns all across the Kingdom to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 situation, and evaluate the implementation of various measures to ensure the welfare of Indian nationals.

Abu Dhabi, Jun 17: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has allowed students still enrolled in universities overseas to obtain exceptions to attendance policies at their respective academic institutions in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the ministry said that the move stems from its keenness to ensure the continuity of education for those students and to maintain effective channels of communication with them.

Students' applications for exceptions to academic attendance in universities due to Covid-19 should be submitted following the end of the academic year, and not after the academic semester, via the following email: [email protected].

In their email, students have to explain the reasons for the required exceptions and should include an official message from the university concerned.

Scholarship approval issued by the Ministry of Education for studying abroad should also be attached.

The student's score reports for the academic years spent in the host countries and the duration of each academic year should also be attached, in addition to an entry and exit report of the student from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.
