Saudi-Czech trade talks canceled over anti-Islam remarks

Riyadh, Jun 4: A major Saudi-Czech business meeting has been canceled by the Kingdom because of anti-Islam statements made by a Czech official targeting Islamic countries, Abdul Rahman Al-Zamil, president of the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC), confirmed on Wednesday.

Saudi-CzechAl-Zamil, who also heads the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), said: “I have seen the reports and I can confirm the cancellation of the Saudi-Czech business meeting … but I can’t give specific details with regard to our position now.”

Other CSC officials downplayed the report, which was first carried by Al-Watan daily.

The report coincides with the publication of a comprehensive interview with Czech President Milos Zeman in a section of the Saudi press Wednesday. Zeman, in the interview, spoke in a candid and conciliatory tone while recalling the historically close Czech-Arab relations.

Czech Ambassador Jiri Slavik said he was hopeful of the cordial relations ahead. “I have sent a note to the Saudi Foreign Ministry requesting a meeting … I expect to meet Saudi officials soon, and discuss the deadlock,” he added.

Bilateral relations soured after Zeman gave some anti-Muslim statements following the attacks on the Jewish Museum in Brussels several years ago. In response, Saudi Arabia launched a diplomatic offensive against the Czech Republic. Since then, Czech-Saudi ties have been strained.

Prague fears the rift might spill over into the economic sphere if there are no efforts toward reconciliation.

New Delhi, June 24: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has asked Air India to not carry any passengers aboard the repatriation flights to UAE being operated under the Vande Bharat Mission.

As per the Guidelines issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority of United Arab Emirates (UAE)- Safety Decision 2020-01 (Issue 17) Q and A Guidance For Foreign Operators, on June 23, 2020 - transportation of passengers ( UAE Nationals and Non - UAE Nationals) to the United Arab Emirates on the repatriation flights is not allowed.

In view of the foregoing, all passengers including the Indian Nationals who are holding valid Residency Permit / Work Permit of United Arab Emirates and have procured approval of the UAEs Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship- UAE (ICA) of United Arab Emirates or an approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) applicable to Dubai would need to have specific approval from the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in New Delhi and their UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) to travel from India to United Arab Emirates (UAE) on these repatriation flights.

All passengers need to comply with the quarantine and COVID-19 test requirements as per the preventive and the precautionary measures required by the appropriate health authorities, as notified from time to time.

Dubai, Apr 24: The UAE reported 525 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The Ministry of Health and Prevention said the total number of confirmed cases in the UAE is now 9,281.

MOHAP reported 8 deaths taking the total number of deaths in the country to 64. 123 recoveries have also been announced.

According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the latest cases were detected through its intensified investigation and examination procedures.

The ministry conducted over 32,000 additional COVID-19 tests among citizens and residents.

The ministry offered its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. It also wished a speedy recovery to all patients and called upon the general public to strictly adhere to preventative measures out of concern for the health and safety of all.

Tehran, Jan 7: Iranian state television says 35 people have been killed and 50 others injured in a stampede that erupted at a funeral procession for a general slain in a US airstrike.

The TV says the stampede erupted in Kerman, the hometown of Gen. Qassem Soleimani where the procession was underway on Tuesday.

A procession in Tehran on Monday drew over 1 million people in the Iranian capital, crowding both main thoroughfares and side streets in Tehran.
