Saudi dismisses reports Khashoggi killed at consulate in Istanbul

Istanbul, Oct 7: An official at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul has dismissed the report by Reuters, quoting Turkish officials as saying that Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the Consulate in Istanbul.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, the official strongly denounced these baseless allegations and expressed his doubt that they came from Turkish officials that are informed of the investigation or are authorised to comment on the issue.

The source also revealed that a security delegation of Saudi investigators arrived Saturday to Istanbul at the request of the Saudi side and the consent of the Turkish side to participate in the investigations of the disappearance of Jamal Kashoggi. The source noted the Kingdom's appreciation for the Turkish government's acceptance of the request. The delegation is there to assist in the investigations regarding the disappearance of the Saudi citizen Khashoggi.

"The source stressed that the Kingdom holds the safety and well-being of its citizens wherever they are and that relevant authorities in the Kingdom are diligently following up on this matter to uncover the complete facts," SPA concluded.

Dubai, Apr 15: Saudi Arabia reported 493 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5869, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

According to the ministry of health, the number of recoveries today are 42 cases, making total of recoveries in the kingdom 931. And 71 critical cases in intensive care.

The ministry also confirmed 6 deaths bringing the total number of deaths in the kingdom to 79.

Saudi Arabia imposed a 24-hour curfew and lockdown on the cities of Riyadh, Tabuk, Dammam, Dhahran and Hofuf and throughout the governorates of Jeddah, Taif, Qatif and Khobar. This week the curfew was extended until further notice.

Overall, Saudi Arabia has reported one of the lowest rates of infection in the region, with around 5,000 cases in a population of over 30 million. Mecca was one of the first Saudi cities to be placed under a full-day curfew, and authorities took unprecedented precautions, suspending religious tourism in February and closing mosques across the country in March.

Dubai, Feb 24: Kuwait and Bahrain confirmed on Monday their first novel coronavirus cases, the countries' health ministries announced, adding all had come from Iran.

Kuwait reported three infections and Bahrain one in citizens who had returned home from the Islamic republic.

Muscat, Jan 11: Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said has died, Aljazeera reported citing state television on Friday.

Qaboos was 79-year-old and was ill for a long time. He has served as the ruler of Oman since 1970 when he ousted his father in a bloodless coup.

Qaboos had no children and has not publicly named his successor.

Sultan Qaboos travelled to Belgium for a week in December for what was described then as "medical checks." He returned to Oman but speculations of his deteriorating health were rife.
