Surat, Dec 31: Breaking boundaries of religion and culture, a Saudi Arabian man tied the knot with his Russian fiancée in a traditional Hindu ceremony here after colourful customs and unique wedding rituals caught their fancy.indian

The ceremony held yesterday was organised by their common friend - Kishan Dholiya.
Interestingly, the couple - Hamid Al-Hamad and Juliana Smirnoff - had come to the city few days back to attend Kishan's marriage. Both of them got so impressed with the rituals and entire process of Hindu marriage that they decided to wed here as per those traditions.

"They came here just to attend Kishan's marriage, which took place a week back. Since they came here for the first time, both of them got curious about various rituals performed during the marriage. We made them understand the importance of each ritual," Kishan's relative Mansukh Desai said.

"Describing the importance of various rituals and shlokas (verses) recited by the priest, we told them that these things are important for a long-lasting married life. Upon learning this, they instantly took the decision to marry here as per these traditions," he added.

Hamid is a software engineer while Juliana is into textile business. Both of them have been living in China since last few years and came in contact with Kishan there who had gone to the country for higher studies.

Upon his invitation, both of them came here to attend Kishan's marriage and fell in love with the culture.

"Indian culture and traditions caught our attention. One cannot ignore such traditional values, which are many years old. Thus, me and Juliana took a quick decision to marry as per these traditions," said Hamid, who wore a traditional sherwani while Julinana was dressed in a saree.

"It was always my dream to wear traditional Indian attire. Though they are quite heavy, they are very beautiful. I am so happy to get married here," Juliana said.

After the couple took the spot decision to marry here, Kishan and his family arranged for their clothes, jewellery, venue etc, and arranged the wedding ceremony at Varachha area in Surat which was attended by Kishan's relatives and friends.

"To make them understand the importance of each ritual, we even translated all shlokas into English and kept on reciting them during the ritual. They are very happy to get married here," said Kishan.

Chamrajnagar, May 30: Karnataka Cabinet Minister Ramesh Jarakiholi said on Friday that over22 Congress MLAs were in touch with him and he can bring five of them.

"More than 22 Congress MLAs are in contact with me and if the high commands wants, I can bring five of them tomorrow," Jarakiholi told reporters.

Replying on speculation that some MLAs in BJP are not happy and want to join the Congress, he said, "Congress is a sinking boat and nobody wants to go to Congress now."

Meanwhile, sources in BJP have said that some party leaders are not happy including Basangouda Ramangouda Patil Yatnal.

Basvanagowda Patil said earlier this week that "BS Yediyurappa is not his CM, he is the CM of Karnataka. My leaders are Narendra Modi and JP Nadda."

The sources also said that other close aides of Yeddyurappa like Umesh Katti and Murugesh Nirani are no longer happy with him as they are yet to be included in the state cabinet.

The sources said Nirani has stood with Yeddyurappa but has not been included in the cabinet. There is speculation that several MLAs are in touch with Nirani.

Sources said Nirani, Umesh Katti, Basvanagowda Patil and several other leaders held a meeting in an undisclosed location.

Congress leader DK Suresh said the Congress has no role in the developments in BJP. "Yeddyurappa government will be brought down by their own MLAs. Congress has no role in it," he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: This year, schoolchildren will have a longer summer vacation starting early, thanks to the new coronavirus onslaught. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar on Thursday announced that schools in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts will be closed for vacation from Friday.

Classes from LKG to sixth standard will closed for vacations till the schools reopen in June, while students of classes 7-9 will have ‘study holidays’ until their examinations commence (as scheduled by their respective schools). Their summer vacations will begin with the completion of their examinations.

Class 10 students will have their examinations according to the dates scheduled earlier.

“Let us not treat this as a panic reaction or something to cause a scare. This measure is taken as a precaution. A lot of parents were worried about their children. We have already announced the closure of schools from nursery to sixth standards. Now, we are declaring official holidays upto sixth standard. Students of standards 1-6 will all be promoted based on their formative assessment,” said Kumar adding, “no student will be detained in those classes.”

With respect to seventh, eighth and ninth standards, the schools will be closed for study holidays and students will have to return to write their examinations.“We will not interfere in the examination schedules of CBSE and ICSC schools. However, state syllabus schools have to finish their examinations before March 23”, Public Instruction Commissioner KG Jagadeesh said.Just a couple of papers of the PU examinations are left after which their holidays will begin.

Exam timetable not changed

Miscreants are spreading rumours that SSLC examination dates are changed because of the new coronavirus outbreak. However, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board director V Sumangala categorically said the examinations will be held from March 27  to April 9 as scheduled earlier.

Bengaluru, Jun 9: A 42-year-old founding director of an engineering consultancy firm lost Rs 65,000 to online fraudsters who posed as representatives of a mobile service provider and lured him with the offer of a fancy number recently.

Asif (name changed) received a text message on May 19, informing him that a platinum number, 9099999999, was available and interested people could dial a mobile number to avail it.

“Asif, who runs a mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) engineering consultancy near Shivajinagar, decided to get the fancy mobile number. He called the number and the receiver said they would generate an invoice for his request. After a fake invoice for Rs 64,900 was generated, Asif paid the money through online transaction that day. Asif waited for two weeks for the SIM card with the fancy number to reach him,” an officer said.

East CEN Crime police registered a case of cheating under section 420 of IPC and sections under the Information Technology Act after Asif lodged a complaint on June 6.
