Bengaluru Dec 9: KPCC president G Parameshwara accused the BJP of trying to create confusion within the ruling Congress over poll-related tours party leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, have planned.

The BJP has targetted Siddaramaiah's upcoming Sadhaneya Sambhrama tour, which the saffron party has claimed will cost the government Rs 50 crore.

"The chief minister is slated to inaugurate various government works. Hasn't he done that before? Can we keep an account for everything, including flowers used to welcome him?," Parameshwara retorted, defending the chief minister's tour. "The Opposition parties are scared. That's why they are spreading rumours about the tours our leaders want to take up."

The Congress has just come out of a spat between Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah over touring the state, thanks to AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal clearly demarcating who should do what - Siddaramaiah will visit Congress-ruled constituencies and Parameshwara the rest.

Katti to join Cong?

Parameshwara did not rule out the possibility of BJP leader Umesh Katti joining Congress. "The BJP is a broken house. That's why leaders like Katti are frustrated. Katti may have been in touch with the chief minister. I have not spoken to him. He will be welcomed if he wants to join," Parameshwara said. "It will be discussed with the high command."

Special vehicle

Parameshwara himself is gearing up for a tour of the Koratagere Assembly constituency in Tumakuru district, from where he wants to contest this time. A special vehicle has been designed for his campaign.

"Speeches of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be played on this vehicle," he said, adding that he wanted to start an early campaign "to avoid mistakes in the past."

Parameshwara lost from Koratagere in 2013 Assemnly elections to JD(S) candidate Sudhakar Lal.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Senior Congress leader K J George on Thursday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate officials here in connection with a FEMA case.

The former minister is being investigated by the ED for probable violation of provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

The ED had recently issued summons to George.

Speaking to reporters after appearing before the ED, George said he has answered to the officials' queries and will cooperate further also.

"ED had issued me summons, as a law abiding citizen, I have answered and gave documents to whatever they asked.

Further also if they call me...I will cooperate and provide necessary documents," he said, without divulging any details.

George clarified that no summons has been issued by the ED to members of his family.

"If required they (ED officials) will call me again, and I'm ready to cooperate," the congress leader added.

Last year, the president of the Karnataka Rashtra Samithi Ravi Krishna Reddy had complained to the ED seeking a probe into the alleged money laundering and properties held by George and his family members in the United States.

Responding to a question about a defamation case filed by him against those who have levelled the allegations, George said "Just because ED has called me for questioning, I'm not proved guilty."

"Anyone can complain to agencies like the Income Tax or ED or Lokayukta, but my only objection is with going to the press to project someone as guilty," he said.

"...going to the press with an intention to do a propaganda against me..someone who is in public life-- to project me as guilty is wrong, so I have filed defamation case stating the allegations are false," he added.

George is the third senior Congress leader from Karnataka to face an ED probe after D K Shivakumar and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Shivakumar was arrested by the agency in a money laundering case and was kept in Tihar Jail, until he got bail in October, while Khan was summoned in connection with the multi-crore IMA group Ponzi scam case.

Lucknow, Feb 24: The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board on Monday accepted the five acres of land provided for construction of the mosque in Ayodhya.

The Board also decided to form a trust to oversee the construction of the mosque.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Board's Chairman Zufar Faruqui.

Apart from this, the trust will also construct a charitable hospital, public library and a centre showcasing the heritage of Indo-Islamic civilisation which will also serve as a research and study centre for the same, according to a press release by the board.

The appointment of members to the trust will be announced following its creation, the release added.

The Supreme Court had on November 9 last year directed the Central government to hand over the disputed site at Ayodhya for the construction of a temple and set up a trust for the same.

The apex court had further directed the government to allocate an alternative five acres of land at a prominent location in Ayodhya for the construction of a mosque to the Sunni Waqf Board.
