School manager dies as speeding car rams into scooter

Manjeshwar, Oct 14: An elderly man lost his life and a middle aged man suffered severe injuries after a speeding car rammed into a two-wheeler at Uppala near here on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mushtaq Husain (65), a school manager from Bengaluru. Afaq (45), who sustained injuries in the mishap, was rushed to a hospital.

The two had gone out for some work on a scooter in the morning. A car coming from the opposite direction knocked down the two-wheeler on NH 66, sources said.

A resident of Bengaluru, Husain had come to his relative's house in Uppala four days ago and he was supposed to return this weekend.

Karanataka, Apr 20: Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa launched an online crash course programme 'GetCETGo', here on Monday.

GetCETGo is the state government's free online crash course programme to help all students of Karnataka prepare for Common Entrance Test (CET) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

The programme was launched by the state government amid the disruption in education sector caused due to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown.

Students can access the content through the web portal and the Android Application that has been developed by Sinchu Infotech and Deeksha Online.

They can also avail comprehensive study material with practice questions, chapter-wise tests, revision videos and mock tests.

According to the state government, this programme will benefit around 1,94,000 students.

New Delhi, Jun 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday sought a discussion on advances in telemedicine, the use of "Make in India" products in the healthcare, and the use of IT tools in the medical sector for a healthier society.

Addressing an event at the Rajiv Gandhi Health University in Bengaluru via video conference, he sought a discussion on whether new models can be conceived that make telemedicine popular on a larger scale.

Referring to the "Make in India" program, he said the initial gains made in this field make him optimistic. "Our domestic manufacturers have started production of personal protective equipment and have supplied about one crore PPEs to those in the frontline of fighting COVID-19.

Modi said IT-related tools for healthier societies can be of great help.

"I am sure you have heard of Arogya Setu. Twelve crore health-conscious people have downloaded it. This has been very helpful in the fight against coronavirus," he said.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: Touted as a first of its kind in the nation, a mobile Covid-19 lab was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

The lab, approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can do 9,000 RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests per month, an official press release said here. "This is a unique lab having all safety features and capable of producing 100% accurate results within four hours," Dr Sudhakar was quoted as saying in the press release.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) had developed the lab and handed it over to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

The mobile lab can also be used for molecular diagnostic-testing and can be deployed in coronavirus hot spots quickly, the release said adding, apart from Covid-19, the lab can be utilised for testing H1N1, HCV, TB, HPV and HIV among others.
