Schoolboy falls into pond while returning home after tuition, dies

Udupi, Dec 24: A schoolboy died after he accidentally fell into a pond at Ambagilukere near Kota in Udupi district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Sri Ram (11), a resident of Handattu village in the district.

According to police, Sri Ram was on his way from his house to tuition classes at Moorkai when the tragedy occurred.

As he reached Ambagilukere, he accidentally slipped into the pond and drowned.

Though locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue him, Sri Ram could not survive. The doctors at a private hospital declared him brought dead.

Youth dies in accident

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old died on the spot after a private bus hit his motorcycle at Pakkalu near Perdoor on Sunday. The deceased is Pramod, resident of Udupi.

Sources said Pramod was a graphic designer and employed in Manipal. He was going to his house after work when a bus coming from the opposite direction rammed into him.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 7: Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 17 and 13 new coronavirus positive cases between 5 p.m. on June 6 and 5 p.m. on June 7. 

16 among 17 new covid patients in Dakshina Kannada are returnees from Maharashtra, while one returned from Goa recently.

Maharashtra returnees comprise 14 males, including three teenagers t, and two females aged 32 and 41. The Goa returnee is a 32-year-old male.

All of them have all been admitted to the designated COVID hospital in the district.

With this, the total tally of coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada has risen to 203, out of which 47 are currently active. As many as 150 patients have recovered and been discharged, and seven have died.

Among the 13 in Udupi, 12 are Maharashtra returnees, while process of contact tracing of one patient, a 30-year-old woman, is going on.

The patients comprise eight males, including a 7-year-old boy, and five females. They have all been admitted to the designated hospital.

This takes the total number of coronavirus cases in Udupi district to 902, out of which 798 are currently active, 103 discharged, and one patient has died.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A total of 4,764 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

Out of the new cases, 2,050 cases were reported in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The total number of active cases stands at 47,069, said the state Health Department.

Death toll rises to 1,519 in the state.

Bengaluru, Feb 7: A preliminary charge-sheet has been filed in three cases in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) betting and match-fixing case.

In Cubbon Park case, chargesheet against six accused which includes two team owners-- Ali and Arvind Reddy, one KSCA management committee member Shinde, two players Gautum and Kazi and one bookie Maavi are charge-sheeted.

Apart from this, charge-sheet filed in Bharatinagar PS case against six accused while in JP Nagar case four accused-- Bafna, Sayyam, Jatin and Harish-- have been charge-sheeted.
