Scolded by HD Revanna for joining Cong, farmer commits suicide; video goes viral

February 11, 2016

Holenarasipur, Feb 11: A day after a farmer committed suicide, a video clip of the last moments of the victim blaming MLA?H?D?Revanna for his extreme step went viral on Wednesday, putting the latter in a spot of bother.

hdGangadhar (55), a farmer from Hatchichowdenahalli, had stated that he decided to end his life as “JD(S) leader and MLA H D Revanna had scolded him for supporting the Congress during the recently concluded election to the Legislative Council from the local bodies constituency, though he was a staunch supporter of the regional party.”

However, Gangadhar’s son B G Mohan, in his statement to the police, gave a different version. He stated that his father had borrowed a loan of Rs 21 lakh from Khadi Gramodyog Board 30 years ago and ended his life as he was unable to repay the loan.

According to the hospital staff, they have no clue about the person who had videographed the statements of Gangadhar on his cellphone, during the latter’s last minutes. An attendant who was on duty during the incident said Gangadhar came to the hospital at 10 pm on Tuesday, saying he had consumed poison-laced liquor and pleaded with the medical staff to save his life.

Duty doctor Dr Prabhavathy provided first aid and later suggested that he be shifted to Hassan hospital. By the time the police were informed, Gangadhar had died. Visibly irked over the development, MLA?Revanna blamed the Congress leaders in the district for “their involvement in tarnishing his image” for political reasons.

”I am ready for any kind of probe related to the incident. Let the government hand over the case CBI,” Revanna told media persons. He alleged that Congress candidate Sunil from Halekote ZP constituency and his friends were attempting to tarnish his image, as his (Revanna) wife Bhavani was contesting against him on a JD(S) ticket. He demanded a detailed probe into the issue.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday hit out at state Health Minister B Sriramulu for stating that "only God can save Karnataka" from COVID-19 and asked him to resign from his post.

Speaking to media here in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said, "The government cannot say that we are helpless. Why is the government in power? You have power and you have money. It is your primary duty to serve the citizens of the state."

On being asked about Karnataka Health Minister's statement, the Congress leader said: "Let him resign and go out. God will help you only if you will put all your efforts."

Meanwhile, President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee DK Shivakumar tweeted "Karnataka's Health Minister saying 'Only God can save Karnataka' reflects poorly on @BSYBJP govt's ability to handle the Covid crisis. Why do we need such a government if they cannot tackle the pandemic?"

Sriramulu had said on Wednesday that either people should inculcate awareness or only God can save them from COVID-19.

"Who can save us at this time? It's either God or people should inculcate awareness in them. Congress leaders are involved in political mudslinging at this time. This is not fine and it will not help them in any way," the Minister had said.

"It is a crucial time, in the interest of the general public. I request all the Congress leaders not to indulge in loose talk regarding the issue, it leads to more panic situation among the general public. We are ready to adhere to any punishment if we did any wrong thing," he had added.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should issue strict orders to the police in Delhi to act in nation's interest and control the ongoing violence.

"Distressing scenes in Delhi!! #DelhiBurning as a result of ulterior motives of divisive forces within our Country. Police have completely failed in their responsibility. People have to remain calm and promote peace in the area for their own benefit," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"Seven people dead and hundreds are injured, Amit Shah should issue strict orders to police to act in nation's interest and not in the interest of few people. As Gandhiji said, An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Peace and harmony should be our moto," he added.
Siddaramaiah further stated that the "triggering point of the #DelhiViolence seems to be the inciting speech of BJP leader Kapil Mishra."

"This actually qualifies for a sedition case as it was aimed at disturbing national peace and security. Police have to arrest him and bring normalcy in Delhi," he wrote.

Siddaramaiah has further asked Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to be careful "before situation goes out of hand."

"Delhi riots are in front of eyes. There will be tough situation here in state as well if those loose tongue leaders in BJP are not stopped in the state," he wrote.
As many as 18 people have lost their lives and around 190 are injured in the violence that has been raging in parts of North-East Delhi from Monday.
