Chamarajanagar, Jun 1: Food and Civil Supplies and District in-charge Minister U T Khader has thrown an open challenge to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, saying, “If the Centre is genuinely concerned about cow protection, let it first scrap the beef export license.”
Addressing media persons, here, the minister said that there was no clarity in the Centre' fresh ban order on sale of cattle. “Their (Centre's) main intention is to create confusion among the people,” he said.
He said: “The Centre is trying to curb cow slaughter, and on the other hand it is issuing licences and subsidy to companies that are involved in meat export business. Let it stop issuing licences to them.”
If Modi government is really concerned about cows, let it implement the 'Pashu Bhagya' scheme, introduced in the state, across the nation and distribute cows for free to the farmers, Mr Khader said.
“The farmers are already in distress owing to successive droughts. How will they nurture barren and unfit cows, which does not give them any revenue? Let the Centre announce opening goshalas to keep such cattle,” he demanded.
