SDPI and PFI have terror ties; Congress govt in Karnataka protecting them: Lekhi

Mysuru, Apr 26: BJP’s national spokesperson and member of the parliament, Meenakshi Lekhi, has expressed concern over reports that chief minister Siddaramiah led government has been protecting Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday Lekhi said that SDPI and PFI are not only anti-social elements but also have ties with terror organizations such as Taliban and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. “The government is protecting jihadi elements,” she added.

"Law and order have collapsed in the state and the government failed to take action against the suspects in the murders of BJP and RSS workers. The police have failed to investigate the murders of writers Gauri Lankesh and M M Kalburgi. But the government is using the issue as a political weapon," she said.

"The Congress government, led by Siddaramaiah, is indulging in 'divide and rule' politics on the basis of religion and caste. As the Congress is playing politics on caste basis, it has become inevitable for the BJP to face the elections on Hindutva strategy. Besides, Siddaramaiah’s government is the most corrupt in the country," she said.

The opposition parties are politicising the rape and murder of a girl reported in Kathua of Jammu. “Why is the opposition not raising voice against the rapes reported in Congress-ruled states. A rape is a rape and a murder is a murder. Instead of ensuring justice to the victims, it is unfortunate that such issues are being used for political gains,” she said.

Dubai, Jan 10: Indian expats in Dubai and the northern Emirates will now be able to get passports issued on the same day under certain conditions, including a higher fee, the Consulate here has announced.

Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul on Thursday announced that the Consulate will start issuing tatkal passports (issued in emergency cases) on the same day, the Gulf News said in a report.

Vipul made the announcement during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non Resident Indian-NRI Day) celebrations at the consulate.

He said the same day issuance service for tatkal passports can be availed only if the application is submitted before noon at the office of BLS International, the outsourced service provider for Indian passport and visa applications, in Al Khaleej Centre, Bur Dubai.

"We already issue tatkal passports in 24 hours. We are going one step beyond that. We are going to issue tatkal passport on the same day if it is applied for before 12 noon. By evening, we can issue the tatkal passport," the Consul General added.

The mission receives about 850 passport applications daily.

Last year, the consulate issued more than 200,000 passports, over 2500 emergency certificates (one-way travel document), over 2,800 police clearance certificates and provided 72,000 attestation services including registration of births and deaths, according to Vipul.

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday held a video conference with senior officials to review the preparedness for conducting of SSLC examinations safely which is beginning from Thursday.

"8,48,203 students will appear for the SSLC examination starting tomorrow in 2,879 centres across the state. All the guidelines issues by state government must be followed strictly" Sudhakar said in the meeting.

"It is the collective responsibility of officials of all departments to ensure that every student is safe, from the time he or she leaves home for the exam centre and returns home after the exams. The vehicles used to ferry students, where public transport is not available, must be sanitised properly. The surroundings near exam centres, exam halls, toilets must be sanitised properly. Social distancing must be maintained in the exam hall and mask must be provided to all students," he said.

The minister also said that since the students have been asked to arrive at exam centre at 7:30 in the morning, a small biscuit packet must be provided to each student so that they don't feel hungry during the exam and till they return home after the exam.

"Thermal scanning of every student should be done before allowing inside the exam hall. In case there is fever those students must be made to write exam in separate room. Separate exam halls must be arranged for students in quarantine areas and if it's not feasible they must be allowed to write exam in September. District administrations must disseminate information about precautionary measures taken to build confidence among parents," the minister said.

Sudhakar instructed the officials to work in coordination with the Education Department and other departments.

Stating that there are 458 containment zones in Bengaluru, the minister asked the officials to be extra cautious in these areas and make arrangements to ensure health department staff can take students to the nearest health center if anybody is found ill during the exam.

Education Minister Suresh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Javed Akhtar, Education Secretary, Secretary of Medical Education Department, BBMP officials, Health Experts and others were present.
