Mumbai, Mar 27: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has vehemently condemned the reported alleged threat to noted lawyer Mehmood Pracha from underworld don Ravi Pujari to eliminate him.ravi_poojary1

SDPI Madhya Pradesh unit president Advocate Sajid Siddiqui in a statement here said that the temerity of those who are threatening people doing their constitutional and professional duty is a reprehensible act which must not only be taken note of by one and all and deplored, but some strong substantial follow up action should also be taken up before any untoward incident takes place.

It should be remembered that a few years back Advocate Shahid Azmi was murdered for defending the innocent Muslim youths arrested on terror charges, he pointed out. Siddiqui said the threat is not only to Pracha but to the Constitution of India, which guarantees all its citizens equality before the law and the right to be defended by lawyer of its own choice. He said that it is sickening to learn that Pracha, who has been fighting many terror-cases of Muslim youths across the country, has uninhibitedly name Rakesh Maria behind the threatening calls and SMSs.

The threatening calls are from different international mobile numbers but the SMS is being sent from one particular number, Pracha has revealed in an interview. Notably, Pracha has been threatened for speaking his mind to the media and claiming to possess “substantive evidence” against not only former ATS chief Rakesh Maria, who is at present the new Mumbai Police Commissioner, but  several police officers involved in terror cases. The lawyer is planning to lodge FIR against Rakesh Maria for implicating Himayat Baig in German Bakery blast case.

Bengaluru, May 26: Ministers of the central government or state governments or officers on their official duty, who are travelling across states, will be exempted from requirements of quarantine, the Karnataka government said on Monday.

The state government issued an addendum to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for inter-state passengers.

"Any person who gets a negative COVID test certificate (from ICMR approved lab) which is not more than two days old from the date of journey will be exempted from the requirement of institutional quarantine," read the addendum.

The state government has laid down new norms for those coming from other states (including those coming by domestic air flights).

Passengers coming from 'high prevalence states' (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh) would be required to undergo a seven-day "institutional quarantine", which will be followed by home quarantine.

The new norms also said that home quarantine of 14 days would be necessary for the passengers coming from other states.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.

The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.

A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.

The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.

She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.

It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.
