Mysuru, Nov 23: The Social Democratic Party of India has urged the media not to float rumours and false information over the recent attack on Congress MLA Tanveer Sait in Mysuru.

The police have so far arrested seven persons in connection with the attack. Five of them have been sent to judicial custody and the main accused has been kept under police custody.

Addressing a press meet here, Abdul Majeed, National General Secretary of SDPI, said that though the police investigation was still underway a section of media are just floating and spreading speculations and concocted stories and Indulging in linking the incident with SDPI.

“By viewing the present scenario some of the steps of police at the investigation stage have raised suspicion that clearly indicate that some vested interests are desperately attempting to take the benefits through achieving its evil designs,” he said, pointing out following points.

1. The family members and advocates are denied permission to meet the accused in judicial custody. Jail officers said they can meet only after 10 days. When advocates asked the jail officers that they are violating the rules, the jail officers pleaded "they are in massive pressure, please understand us". Why the family members and advocates are denied permission to meet the accused in judicial custody ? Which are the forces or persons behind the pressure on police who are wailing by saying that "please understand us"?

2. When 5 accused are in judicial custody and even after six days of the incident, what are the reasons the police not issued authentic statements by them?  The media have hitherto published many so-called police reports. 'MLA didn't help to provide job', 'to gain name', 'Supari threat from underworld criminal' etc were published continuously by the media and created confusion, mistrust and rumors in the public. Even though why police relent on deep silence?

3. In the context of bye election going on in the state some vested interests trying to take benefits of the incident by tarnishing the image of SDPI which is emerging as an alternate political party. Whether those vested interests are putting pressure on police for their selfish gains?

4. It seems a conspiracy is working to fix the innocents in the case though they are not at all connected ? When the accused were sent to judicial custody  why the jail officers denied permissions to  the family members or advocates and asked them to meet only after ten day? Whether efforts are going on to knit the stories?

Mr Majeed said SDPI will fight over all evil conspiracies through systematic legal proceedings. Police has to take measures which enable stringent punishment to the real culprits involved in this incident. He also urged the police to reveal the real motives behind the incident after probing in a right direction without falling prey to any pressure.

Elyas Muhammad Thumbe, State President, SDPI, Kumaraswamy, State Secretary, SDPI, Amjad Khan, State Committee Member, SDPI were present.
