Security stepped up in Mangaluru malls after ugly communal brawl

Mangaluru, Sept 26: The police have stepped up security measures at shopping malls across the city a day after an ugly communal brawl which led to the arrest of three persons including a minor boy. 

Yesterday, a handful of people had assaulted a man in a mall for saying 'India is a Hindu Nation and Muslims should not come here.' The incident of the video has gone viral on social media.

The one who provoked the group through communal dialogue has been identified as Santosh, a resident of Bantwal taluk. 

The police have arrested three persons for assaulting him. Two among them are Moideen Safwan and Abdul Rahim Saad. The third one is a juvenile. 

The police have registered a case against the people who thrashed Santosh and the investigation into the matter is underway.

"We will investigate. Police has good leads," said Mangaluru Police Commissioner while speaking to media on Thursday. 

The top cop also urged the people not to sensationalize the matter as it is an isolated incident.

In the wake of incident, saffron groups had informally urged their activists to gather in malls in large numbers today. Hence, the police have taken necessary measures to prevent untoward incidents.

Udupi, Jan 14: The Udupi district police on Tuesday arrested two suspected terrorists at the Indrali railway station in Udupi.

The two, who had reportedly arrived from Kerala at around 6 ap.m., were standing at the Indrali railway station platform.

Suspicious of their behaviour, the police took them to custody and subjected them to interrogation.

According to reports the duo had involved in the murder of Tamil Nadu police Special Sub-Inspector Wilson.

However, top cop of the district has refused to comment regarding the arrest of the youths.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: Senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash today took over as the new commissioner of police of Mangaluru city.

He replaced Dr P S Harsha, who was recently transferred and posted as the Deputy Inspector General and Commissioner of Information and Public Relations.

Before coming to Mangaluru as city police chief, Vikash Kumar was the Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commander of Anti Naxal Force.

He had also served as the superintendent of police of Chikkamagaluru district.

Udupi, Jun 9: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary School S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of either postponing or cancelling SSLC exam in the State and it will start from June 25 as scheduled.

Replying to a question, the Minister said that Telangana and Tamil Nadu States might have cancelled the SSLC exam, but Karnataka will not follow them. "Will hold the examination from June 25 to July 4 by taking all care to protect the interests of the Children.

The SSLC exam was originally scheduled for March 27, but was postponed as lockdown was clamped following the spread of killer Coronavirus.
