Sena attack BJP, dubs Cong, NCP as "dead snakes"

October 14, 2014

Mumbai, Oct 14: A day after the high decibel campaign for Maharashtra Assembly polls ended, the Shiv Sena today launched a fresh attack on its former ally BJP, terming it as "hungry for power" even as it likened the Congress and the NCP to "dead snakes".

Uddhav-Thackeray"The BJP asks us who the real enemy of Shiv Sena is and who are we fighting against. But the Congress and the NCP are like dead snakes, so there is no danger to us from these parties. But it is imperative now, for the benefit of Maharashtra, that we bring to forefront the hypocrisy of our one-time friends," the Sena said in its editorial mouthpiece 'Saamna'.

Terming BJP as a party "hungry for power", Sena said their former ally's sole motive is to defeat them, which prompted it to unilaterally snap the 25-year-old alliance with Sena.

"The BJP brought a large contingent of its MPs from various states to the battleground. The Prime Minister, the Home Minister and several Central ministers too were roped in to ensure the defeat of the Sena," it said.

The Sena also accused the BJP of indulging in caste-based politics and regionalism.

"Until yesterday, regional leaders like (SP chief) Mulayam Singh Yadav, (RJD president) Lalu Yadav and (former Haryana Chief Minister) Bhajan Lal used to come here (Maharashtra) and indulge in votebank politics. And today it seems that entire Gujarat has come to Maharashtra to try and muddle the minds of Gujarati voters.

"But the commitment of Gujaratis for Maharashtra and their love for Balasaheb Thackeray will make them stand behind the Sena without doubt," it added.

The state Assembly polls for the 288-member House will be held tomorrow.

New delhi, Feb 10: The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the constitutional validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act, 2018, and said a court can grant anticipatory bail only in cases where a prima facie case is not made out.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said a preliminary inquiry is not essential before lodging an FIR under the act and the approval of senior police officials is not needed.

Justice Ravindra Bhat, the other member of the bench, said in a concurring verdict that every citizen needs to treat fellow citizens equally and foster the concept of fraternity.

Justice Bhat said a court can quash the FIR if a prima facie case is not made out under the SC/ST Act and the liberal use of anticipatory bail will defeat the intention of Parliament.

The top court's verdict came on a batch of PILs challenging the validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act of 2018, which was brought to nullify the effect of the apex court's 2018 ruling, which had diluted the provisions of the stringent Act.

Jaipur, Jul 23: Four days after the Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in connection with the purported audio clips indicating his alleged involvement in horse trading of MLAs in Rajasthan, a city court has directed the Rajasthan police to probe a complaint alleging Shekhawat's role in a credit society scam worth Rs 840 crore.

The additional district judge Pawan Kumar, on Tuesday, directed the additional chief judicial magistrate's court to send the complaint against Shekhawat to the SOG.

Shekhawat, his wife and other partners have been named in the complaint in the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam in which around 50,000 investors allegedly lost about Rs 840 crore.

The Jaipur unit of the SOG has been probing the scam since last year after an FIR was registered on August 23, 2019.

Now, Jaipur ADJ Court-8 ordered a fresh inquiry in the case against Gajendra Singh accepting the revised application filed by Lagu Singh and Guman Singh and said that "this is a serious matter and hence SOG should investigate this".

Both the applicants had invested a huge amount in Sanjivani credit cooperative society.

It is alleged in the complaint that a multi-storey building has been built with the money instead of a theatre which was proposed earlier and many properties were also bought in Ethiopia with the money.

An SOG investigation also reveals that a large amount of money has been deposited into accounts of Shekhawat and his wife at different time spans, said sources.

Earlier, Shekhawat was not mentioned in the chargesheet filed by the SOG in connection with the case. Later, a magistrate's court also rejected the application to include him in the chargesheet. The applicants then approached the additional district judge's court with a revised application.
