Sena hits out at BJP for 'free publicity' to Kanhaiya

March 7, 2016

Mumbai, Mar 7: In a veiled attack on the BJP for letting JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar get "free publicity", ally Shiv Sena today sought to know how he got bail in such a short span of time when others charged with 'sedition' are still languishing in jails.

kanhaiyyaaa"(Union Minister) Venkaiah Naidu said Kanhaiya Kumar is getting free publicity. If that is so, who is responsible for letting him get free publicity? Today, nothing comes for free," the Sena said in an edit in its mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

"A price has to be paid for even the smallest of things. Working class people, labourers who used to save money in PF, will now be taxed on their earnings. In short, the government has only shown people nothing will be given for free," it said.

It said that Hardik Patel, who led the Patel agitation demanding reservation for his community in Gujarat is still behind bars after being charged with 'sedition' and so are people like Colonel Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya.

"Then how did Kanhaiya get bail so easily? Was it that keeping him behind bars was becoming a problem for the government and that it had to answer too many questions?" the Sena asked.

"If Naidu says Kanhaiya is getting free publicity, then our system and administration is responsible for it. He has become a hero because people are announcing reward for attack on Kanhaiya," it said, referring to BJP leader Kuldeep Varshnay announcing Rs 5 lakh prize money for cutting off the tongue of Kanhaiya, who he had alleged, was speaking against BJP and PM Narendra Modi after being released on bail.

A poster announcing Rs 11 lakh prize money to anyone "shooting down" Kumar was also spotted in Delhi.

The Sena further said that the sole aim (of politicians) is to win elections and form a government.

"Promises made before elections vanish into the air and farmers, labourers, working class and students are made victims. If this continues, there would be human bombs made within the country. These youngsters will be exploited for political games," the Sena warned.

Kumar, who was arrested on February 12 on sedition charges, was released from Tihar jail on March 3 after the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail for six months.

New Delhi, Jun 27: Fuel prices were hiked by the oil marketing companies for the 21st day in a row on Saturday. Petrol and diesel will now cost Rs 80.38/litre and Rs 80.40/litre respectively in the national capital.

The price of petrol is increased by Rs 0.25 per litre while that of diesel by Rs 0.21 per litre.
Rates differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax (VAT).

Notably, oil marketing companies have been adjusting retail rates in line with costs after an 82-day break from rate revision amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. These firms on June 7 restarted revising prices in line with costs.

The Congress party had called the increase in the price of petrol and diesel 'unjust', 'thoughtless' and demanded from the Central government to roll back increase with immediate effect and pass on the benefit of low oil prices directly to the citizens of this country.
In an official statement, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) had said that no government should levy and impose such unacceptable strain on its people.

Before the nation entered the lockdown, the average price of petrol and diesel in Delhi was Rs 69.60 per litre and Rs 62.30 per litre respectively.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Ayodhya to lay the foundation of the Ram temple. He participated in the bhoomi poojan rituals at the temple site and offered prayers. He will shortly lay the foundation of the temple with a sliver brick.

From Varanasi to Tamil Nadu, many devotees have sent gifts for the ceremony, like silver bricks and coins.

Special prayers were started on Monday and will culminate with the PM laying the foundation stone for the temple. The city has been decorated with paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana. The Uttar Pradesh government has also made elaborate security arrangement for the event.

Apart from the state police, the NSG commandos have also been kept on stand-by. The invitations for the ceremony have been kept limited due to the coronavirus pandemic. Veteran BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi will witness the event from New Delhi via video-conferencing.

Mar 4: Twenty-one Italian tourists and three Indian tour operators have been sent to an ITBP quarantine facility in Delhi on Tuesday for suspected coronavirus exposure, official sources said.

Health Ministry sources said these foreigners, 13 women and eight men, were in the same group of which an Italian and his wife have tested positive in Rajasthan capital Jaipur.

“His (Italian in Jaipur) condition is stable,” a source said.

Three Indians, who were accompanying this Italian group as tour operators, have also been sent to the ITBP facility in Chhawla area of south-west Delhi, they said.

All these people, staying at a five-star hotel in south Delhi, have been put in “preventive isolation” at the ITBP camp and their samples will be taken on Wednesday, sources said.

The centre already has 112 people, 76 Indians and 36 foreigners, since February 27 after they were evacuated by an IAF plane from Wuhan in China, the epicentre of the coronavirus.

The first samples of these 112 people had tested negative when reports came in last week.
