Bengaluru, Apr 25: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) received a major setback on Thursday as their pace spearhead Dale Steyn was ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a shoulder injury.

Steyn had replaced an injured Nathan Coulter-Nile in the squad. The South African pacer featured in only two matches for his team. RCB won both matches Steyn featured in.

"Dale Steyn has been prescribed with ample rest due to inflammation in his shoulder. On account of the state of his health, Dale will not be available to take part further in the ongoing season of IPL," RCB Chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said in a statement.

"His presence has helped the team immensely and we are very thankful for the inspiration and passion that he brought to the squad. The team will deeply miss his energy and presence around. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the luck for all future endeavours," he added.

Before Steyn's arrival, RCB had lost the first six games of the season. His introduction to the team saw RCB's fortunes change and the Bengaluru side has now won three games in a row and is in contention to make it to the playoffs stage in the tournament.

The South African speedster added pace to the Bengaluru bowling attack and picked up four wickets at an economy rate of 8.69. He picked up 2 for 40 against Kolkata Knight Riders and 2 for 29 against Chennai Super Kings.

Steyn previously represented RCB in the first three editions of the IPL. He has been named in South Africa's 15-member World Cup 2019 squad and will hope for a speedy recovery with the showpiece event, slated to be held in England and Wales, just around a month away.

New Delhi, Apr 21: India skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday said people seem to have become more compassionate while coping with the COVID-19 pandemic and hoped the sense of gratitude towards frontline workers like doctors and police personnel remains even after the crisis is over.

Speaking in an online class organised by "Unacademy", Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma spoke at length about the challenges they faced before tasting success.

"The one positive out of this crisis that we as a society have become more compassionate. We are showing more gratitude to the frontline workers in this war, be it police personnel, doctors or nurses.

"I hope it stays this way even after we overcome this crisis," said Kohli with Sharma seated next to her.

Kohli said the pandemic has taught the world a very important lesson.

"Life is unpredictable. So, do what makes you happy and not get into comparisons all the time. People have a choice now how to come out of this phase. Life is going to be different after this," said the skipper.

For Sharma, the pandemic has forced people to care about the basics in life.

"There is a learning in all of this. Nothing happens without a reason. If the frontline workers were not there, we would not have access to basics," she said..

"This has taught us that no one is special than the other. Health is everything. We are more connected as a society now," she added.

During the session, Kohli was asked about the moment when he felt most helpless.

"I felt nothing was working for me when I was not picked for the state team initially. I cried the whole night and asked my coach 'why did I not get selected'?" he responded.

New Delhi, Jan 12: Flamboyant India all-rounder Hardik Pandya was on Saturday pulled out of the India A team's tour of New Zealand after he failed mandatory fitness tests in Mumbai.

The selectors had picked him in the squad without testing him in the Ranji games.

Tamil Nadu captain Vijay Shankar has been drafted into the India A team and he has already boarded the flight to New Zealand where they will play two 50-over warm-up games, three List A games and two four-day 'Tests' against the home A team.

It has been learnt that Pandya failed a couple of mandatory fitness tests and his scores were well below the permissible range suggesting that he is far from being fit for international cricket. In this situation, pulling him out of the India A squad was expected.
