New Delhi, Jul 31: Senior JD(U) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav on Monday broke his silence over Nitish Kumar's decision to junk Grand Alliance and form a government in Bihar with BJP support terming it "unfortunate" and against the 2015 mandate.

Yadav's public disapproval came four days after Kumar, also the JD(U) President, made a surprise announcement last Wednesday evening to go with BJP, giving a blow to efforts to cobble up Opposition unity to take on Narendra Modi-led BJP.

"I don't agree with the decision in Bihar, its unfortunate. The mandate by the people was not for this," Yadav told reporters outside Parliament House.

He had been keeping his options close to his chest though he interacted with senior opposition leaders from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to RJD chief Lalu Prasad to Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. He also held discussions with Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI's D Raja and SP National President Akhikesh Yadav among others.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was the first Opposition leader whom Yadav met on Thursday, a day after Kumar took the decision.

The senior leader, who hasn't made it clear whether he would quit the party, was also present in Rajya Sabha on mondaybwhen he raised the alleged privatisation of Ordnance factories in the country.

When the House was adjourned for a brief period, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley walked up to him and had a brief chat. SP's Ramgopal Yadav, BSP's Satish Chandra Mishra, Congress' Anand Sharma and Jairam Ramesh as well as CPI (M)'s Tapan Sen were seen talking to him.

Speculation were rife that Yadav may get a berth in Union Cabinet after Jaitley met him last week. However, his close aides were maintaining that he was unhappy over Kunar's decision while some Opposition leaders felt that he was yet to maje up his mind.Janata Dal United (JDU) president Sharad Yadav on Monday broke his silence over the recent political development that took place in Bihar, and termed it as "unfortunate". He said that he doesn't agree with the party leader and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar decision as the people's mandate was not for this, reported news agency.

Wayanad, Jan 30: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday compared Mahatma Gandhi assassin Nathuram Godse with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying both believed in the same ideology.

Gandhi, at an anti-CAA rally here, launched a scathing attack on Modi and said he was making Indians to prove that they are Indians.

Addressing participants at "Save the Constitution" march at Kalpetta in Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency on Martyr's Day, Gandhi said there was no difference between Godse and Modi.

"Today, an ignorant man is trying to challenge Gandhi's ideology. He is creating an atmosphere of hatred. The ideology is same. Nathuram Godse and Narendra Modi, they believe in the same ideology. There is no difference except that Modi does not have the guts to say he believes in the ideology of Godse," the Wayanad MP said.

Attacking the Prime Minister on the new Citizenship Law, Gandhi questioned Modi and asked who was he to ask Indians to prove that they were Indians.

"Indians are being made to prove that they are Indians. Who is Narendra Modi to decide who is an Indian. Who gave Modi the licence to ask for my Indianness? I know I am an Indian and I don't have to prove it to anyone. Likewise, 1.4 billion Indians do not have to prove that they are Indians," he said.

The Congress leader led the march here as part of efforts to intensify the party's protests against CAA in the state.

New Delhi, Mar 16: Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde on Monday said that rules for preventing overcrowding in the courts to avoid the spread of coronavirus cannot be relaxed for journalists alone on the basis of profession.

"Can't make an exception on the basis of profession," CJI Bobde said while asking journalists to share information and notes and suggesting that a system can be put in place to facilitate daily media briefing by Secretary-General.

Video conferencing facility being contemplated may be brought into place but not sooner than one week from now and reporters may take turns to attend hearings, CJI Bobde said.

He said that the court does not wish to prevent any reportage.

Attorney General KK Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Chief Justice of India about the crowded corridors on account of restricted entry inside courtrooms.

CJI Bobde said that he himself wishes to assess and take stock of the situation and may do so tomorrow at 10.30 am.

This comes after the top court introduced several precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus and allowed only restricted entry of lawyers, litigants, and journalists in the courtroom.

Thermal-screening of the lawyers, litigants, and media persons were also conducted in the Supreme Court on Monday amid coronavirus fears.
