Sharjah book fair: K S Nissar Ahmed hails Shanthi Prakahsana

Sharjah: Around 2.31 million book lovers from within the United Arab Emirates and around the world visited the 35th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) that concluded on November 12.

The SIBF hosted 1,420 publishing houses from 60 countries. Among them, Mangaluru based Shanthi Prakashana was the only publishing house from Karnataka. By exhibiting a good collection of Kannada literature, SP captured the hearts of thousands of UAE Kannadigas.

By participating in Sharjah international book fair, Shanthi Prakashana drew the attention of millions of visitors from various countries who were unaware and were completely new to the Kannada language. Thus Kannada language and culture have gained recognition among Arab countries thanks to this exhibition.

The Shanthi Prakashana also organised a valedictory ceremony of its exhibition-cum-sale on the last day of the 11-day book far. K S Nissar Ahmed, a renowned Kannada poet and thinker from Karnataka was the guest of honour. He expressed deep sense of love towards the literature of Shanthi Prakashana. He reminisced to the gathering about the acquaintance he had with late Ibraheem Saeed, who had contributed greatly for the growth of Shanthi Prakashana.

Mr Ahmed urged Shanthi Prakashana to boost the publishing landscape of Kannada literature so as to promote literary interest among the non-resident Kannadigas. He also wished Shanthi Prakashana to reach new heights. "Let this stall turn into a large scale library deriving multiple benefits," he added.

Another guest, Dr Kaup Mohammed, Dean and Director of the London American City College, UAE, said that Shanthi Prakshana through its works endeavoured to uproot the misconceptions about Islam. It also should reach out to non Kannadigas by publishing Islamic literature in English, he suggested requesting to continue its participation in SIBF every year.

Sadan Das, president of Kannada Koota, Dubai, Abdul Lathief, vice president of Bearys Cultural Forum Dubai, and Irshad Moodabidre, an NRI Kannada writer, lauded the work of Shanthi Prakashana.

The programme began with the recitation of Quranic verses by V K Nooh Rashid Vitla. Abdul Khader Kukkaje welcomed the guests, Nisar Parangipete compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks. Mubarak PD Thrissur, head of Islamic cultural centre UAE, Malayalam unit felicitated Nadoja Padmashree Nissar Ahmed.

Some of the notable personalities who visited the Shanthi Prakashana exhibition are: Gopinatha Rao (story writer, Dubai), Prakash Payyar (President of Dhwani Prathishtana), Ramachandra Hegde (businessman, Dubai), Vinay Naik (Namma T V), Bekal Sugandh Raj (president of Karnataka Sanga, Sharjah), Dayana D' Souza (Konkani writers group, Dubai), Mohammed Ali Uchil (President of Beary welfare Forum , Abu Dhabi), Abdullah Madumule (chief secretary, BWF, Abudhabi), and the members of Saiban business community, Abu Dhabi.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Dubai: Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club (KSCC) distributed Eid Kit across the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah to the ) needy people on Eid al Fitr.

KSCC President Mr. Mohammed Ismail Said: “Eid is a Symbol of Gratitude and Unity. As the last few weeks have been hard for each one of us, we wanted to stand in solidarity to celebrate Eid, by helping labours and needy people. He also said that “We are together to be part of UAE. Serving these meals is our core social responsibility."

KSCC recently conducted humanitarian services during COVID-19 pandemic in 2 phases and conducted Blood Donation Drive. They have also planned to conduct next Blood Donation Drive on 25th May, 2020.

The KSCC main objective is to develop the expatriate community into a well-nourished section of society in the areas of social, sports and cultural activities.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) organized Blood Donation Camp at Latifa Hospital, Oud Mehta Dubai on April 23rd, 2020 in association with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and with support from Community Development Authority (CDA) Government of Dubai.

Blood Donation Drive started in the morning at 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Around 48 people participated in this drive and donated blood to support the Dubai Blood Bank.

A potential shortage of blood for transfusions has been occurred due to a significant reduction in voluntary blood donations during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic, health services are now running with shortages of blood availability. To support the DHA Blood Bank KSCC taken initiative to ensure that blood donations continued and are safe for both the donor and the recipient.

After taking safety precaution and safe distance during the blood donation donors feeling happy and honored to participate and donate blood at this pandemic situation. Club Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi was also present during this event.

KSCC appreciated all the blood donors and be grateful to Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Community Development Authority (CDA), and Government of Dubai for their association for this event. They also thanked the volunteers and supporters.
