Sharjah Karnataka Sangha gears up for 17th anniversary

Karnataka Sangha Sharjah will be celebrating their 17th anniversary along with 64th Karnataka Rajyotsava Day and Children’s Day celebration on Friday the 15th of November, 2019 from 4 pm at Sharjah Indian Association Auditorium, Sharjah.

Vidwan Sitar Ratna Kochikar Devdas Pai is the star of attraction who will be performing during the Sharjah Karnataka Sangha Anniversary programme.  He will be arriving all the way from Mangalore and this will be his maiden performance in Dubai.

Devdas Pai has performed all over the world and has acclaimed appreciations and awards wherever he performed.  He is a very rare gem born to Kochikar Gopalkrishna Pai & Radha Pai on 15th February, 1962.  A graduate of Arts he is the Managing Partner of the famous New Chitra Talkies Mangalore.

Pai learnt Sitar initially in Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan later got trained with Ustad Khan and further got his additional training under the guidance of Padmashree Dr. Kadri Gopalnath through whom he learnt to play Carnatic in Sitar.

Dharmadhikari Dr. Veerendra Heggade of Dharmastala honored Devdas Pai with VIDWAN Award in the year 1995 and later continuously received lot of appreciation for his dedication and performances.

MAYURA VISHWAMANYA KANNADIGA AWARD 2019

As was done in the past, Sharjah Karnataka Sangha on this occasion will be doing the honours of presenting ‘Mayura Vishwmanya Kannadiga Award – 2019’ to the identified Kannadiga who have contributed towards Kannada in this part of the world.  And this time, Amchigele Ramachandra Hegde, Managing Director of Spraytek Coating / Contracting LLC has been chosen as awardee for the year 2019 who will be honoured in midst of various Guests who will be gracing the grand occasion.

VARIOUS DANCES & MUSIC

Sharjah Karnataka Sangha’s 17th Anniversary celebration will also include various Dances & Musical Orchestra to enthrall the Kannadigas and enjoy the Rajyotsava as well as Children’s Day celebrations.

President Anand Bailoor along with Patron Mark Denis D’souza, General Secretary Noel D Almeida and all the Committee Members have requested Kannadigas from all over UAE to come in large numbers and be part of the celebrations.

Dubai, May 20: Dubai-based Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club’s humanitarian services in charge Naseer Karaje team have appreciated the efforts of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Mangaluru Airport director, NGOs of Mangaluru, and MLA for extending a royal welcome to second batch of repatriates from Dubai that landed at Mangaluru Airport on May 18.

There was so much of confusions when 1st batch of repatriation flight landed in Mangaluru airport on 12th May due to lack of proper arrangements and co ordination.

This time due to proper arrangements and special supervision by the DC everything was driven smoothly. It has given a confidence to all the Manglurean expats of Dubai in returning to their native places, the KSCC said.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.
