Shatrughan Sinha denies CM remark

November 12, 2015

New Delhi, Nov 12: BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha today said he had never suggested that Bihar Assembly poll results could have been different had he been declared the chief ministerial candidate.

ssHe, however, said that things could have been better if he had campaigned in the elections.

"Media tried to create an impression that I had suggested that results cud've been different if I was CM candidate," Sinha tweeted.

BJP lost badly in the recent Assembly elections in Bihar and there are murmurs of dissent over the way campaigning was done in the state. Sinha was not involved in the campaigning.

Denying that he has claimed chief ministership, Sinha said "I have never said this. had no such expectations (of being made CM candidate). Have only said - if I was called for campaigning, things could have been better."

He further said "Nonetheless, now that the verdict is out and we're saddened by this humiliating defeat, we should not run away from fixing responsibility."

In another post, he said, "A more enthusiastic participation of my friends, fans, voters and supporters wud've certainly helped to make a difference at a few seats."

"I am not a Rajya Sabha MP. I've come through the support of masses and won 2 Lok Sabha elections with record margin. I have a support base!

"Despite sincerity, efforts & intention BihariBabu was kept away from campaigning for my people. My friends, voters&supporters were let down," the actor-turned-politician said.

New Delhi, Jul 20: Alleging that 2,426 companies have "looted" people's savings to the tune of Rs 1.47 lakh crore from banks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government will conduct a probe into it to punish those guilty.

"2,426 companies looted 1.47 lakh crore rupees of people's savings from banks. Will this government investigate this loot and punish the culprits?" Gandhi said on Twitter, without elaborating.

"Or will it allow them to flee like Nirav and Lalit Modi?" he asked.

Gandhi's attack came after media reports claimed that the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) had released a list of 2,426 borrower accounts that have been categorised as “wilful defaulters” with dues amounting to Rs 1,47,350 crore to the banking system.

Bengaluru, May 22: Amazon.com Inc’s India unit said it would hire 50,000 temporary workers to meet a surge in online shopping in the country, where customers have been stuck indoors for two months in a lockdown to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

E-commerce firms faced massive disruption in the initial days of the lockdown in India, but a slow easing of the stringent regulations has allowed them to resume large parts of their operations.

"We want to continue helping customers all over India get everything they need so they can continue to practice social distancing," Amazon senior executive Akhil Saxena said in a statement on the company's blog. (bit.ly/2A1Wv7O)

“(The move) will also keep as many people as possible working during this pandemic while providing a safe work environment for them,” said Saxena, Amazon’s VP for customer fulfillment operations in APAC, MENA & Latam.

The temporary hires will work in Amazon’s fulfillment centers and as part of its delivery network, the company said, making the announcement at a time when various other companies in the country have been forced to cut jobs as they try to tide over the health crisis.

Amazon itself has pushed its annual global Prime Day event, traditionally a summer affair, to September, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

In India, where the Jeff Bezos-led company faces stiff competition from Walmart Inc’s Flipkart, Amazon earlier said it plans to create 1 million jobs by 2025.

The company also said on Thursday it plans to enter the food delivery business in India, pitting itself against well-established startups such as Swiggy and Zomato.
