Sheikh Hamadn award winner Vibhali Shetty honoured with ‘Prathibha Puraskar’ by UAE Bunts

Dubai: Vibhali Shetty, a Class 8 student of Our Own English High School, Sharjah was conferred with Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award on April 29, 2018 and was honoured by Deputy Ruler of Dubai at the Trade Centre Auditorium during the Award Function.

In recognition of this award, Vibhali Shetty was also honoured with ‘Prathibha Puraskar’ during the recent 44th anniversary celebration of UAE BUNTS at J.W. Marriott Hotel, Dubai in the hands of Padmashree Dr. B.R. Shetty in the glittering ceremony.

Ministry of Education, Government of UAE  since 1998 has been recognizing the academic excelled students of UAE who are not only topped in education but also in extracurricular activities in their institution and have honoured them with the prestigious Award where more than 25 lakhs students of various nationalities get educated every year.

Vibhali is the proud daughter of Prasad Shetty who is the Partner of Rajab Trading Company in Sharjah & Suraksha Prasad Shetty who is the Design Manager & Senior Architect at Sea Mak Consultants

She has always excelled in Educational competitions held by the Institute and is not only the topper but has been the Honorable Member of the School Parliament.

Vibhali is also the winner of Gold & Silver Medals at Abacus & Mental Arithmetic UAE level competitions held in UAE.  She is also the proud winner with first place at Karnataka Level Abacus competitions.

She is also the proud first place winner at ‘Santhwanam Youth Fest 2016’ Folk Dance Competitions held at the Dubai Shopping Festival’s Global Village, Indian Pavilion.

A multi-talented Vibhali is also good at Chess, Swimming, Painting, Drawing & Art having won very many accolades and prizes during her career.  She is also a good orator and recital of poems having presented in various stage performances.

Vibhali is also associated in ‘Environmental Protection’ programmes and has also being elected as the Leader of ‘Green Hope – Environmental Group’.  She has associated herself in the ‘Waste Recycling’ programme and also enrolled in Environmental Group. She is an asset to the Institution where she is part of and a proud daughter of her parents.

Mangaluru, Aug 5: Normal life was thrown out of gear as heavy rain and gusty winds lashed large parts of coastal and malnad districts of Karnataka in last 48 hours. Widespread power outages due to tree fall and minor landslides were reported in last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a red alert for Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts 8:30am of August 5.

In Mangaluru city there were several tree falls disrupting power supply in key areas of the city. Four electricity poles were damaged after a tree fell on Boloor Jarandaya road due to rain and heavy winds. In Neermarga too, there were a couple of tree falls in the morning cutting off power supply, which was not restored till this report was sent.

Mescom bore the brunt of the rains in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District and at the last count as many as 148 electric poles, 23 transformers and 65 kilometer conductor wires were damaged due to poles being damaged in tree fall and landslides.

Traffic was affected on Charmadi Ghat on the Mangaluru-Chikkamagaluru route due to a tree fall on the second hair pin bend. 

On Monday, landslides near Kottigehara, Chikkamagaluru District, left traffic badly affected. Though normalcy has been restored on the route after blocking the road for restoration till Tuesday morning, locals fear more landslides due to continuous downpour.

Kodagu district too received heavy rainfall in past 24 hours which resulted in water logging in low-lying areas.

In the Coast, Uttara Kannada received the highest amount of rainfall at 91mm, followed by Udupi at 75 and DK at 73mm. The highest Rainfall of 241 mm was recorded at Castlerock, Supa Taluk in Uttara Kannada District.

KSNMDC bulletin stated that widespread moderate to heavy rains associated with strong surface winds at times and isolated very heavy to extreme heavy rains was likely over Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts It also stated that wind speeds ranging between 50kmph to 60 kmph was forecast along the coast of Karnataka from Mangaluru to Karwar, warning fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Bengaluru, May 21: With temples yet to open for devotees as coronavirus restrictions are in place, the Karnataka government is preparing for live streaming of sevas (service) and poojas offered to deities at temples that comes under the state's Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department.

The government has also decided to develop an app and web-based software with an intention to provide information to devotees regarding temples, also to facilitate online donations and advance booking for various sevas offered there.

Regarding online live streaming, Commissioner of the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department has written to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts and Executive Officers seeking a list of temples that comes under their jurisdiction where such facility can be provided.

"It has been intended to do online live streaming of sevas and pooja rituals at temples that come under the department in the backdrop of COVID-19 crisis. In this regard it is requested to provide a list of temples where online live facility can be provided to devotees, by abiding the traditions and practices of the temple," the letter said.

Though the temples are holding daily poojas and rituals, they are not open to public for now, with COVID-19 induced lockdown restrictions in place.

Officials had recently had stated that the department was planning to have a standard operating procedure (SOP) in place, that needs to be followed at temples in a post lockdown scenario, once they are opened for the public.

There are over 34,000 temples in the state that come under the department.

Meanwhile, in another letter to DCs of 15 districts, also Executive officers and administrators of 'A' grade temples, aimed at development of app and web-based software, the Commissioner has sought information regarding sevas offered at temples in their jurisdictions and those sevas for which option can be provided for devotees to do advance booking.

Bengaluru, May 20: An owner of a hair cutting training salon in the city has given shelter to the jobless IT professionals and migrant workers hailing from north-eastern states and Nepal, in his salon.

Rahul Rai, the owner said, "The moment the lockdown started then I received many complaints from different corners that several persons became jobless and they were thrown out of their rented accommodations."

"They are from different states of the North-east and some of them are from Nepal also. I converted my hair-cutting training salon into a shelter home for them," he added.

A person who got shelter at the salon said, "I lost my job after the lockdown started. I was facing a lot of issues after my landlord had evicted me from my rented accommodation. I spent about a week nearby a lake. I managed to contact Rahul Rai through Facebook and he rescued me along with many others."
