Al-Khobar: The Dammam unit of Jam’iyyatul Falah conducted its 29th Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) in Marhaba Restaurant at Al-Khobar. The master of the ceremony Ameen Shaik opened the meeting with Islamic Greetings and invited the Chief Guest Mr. Abdul Waris and other distinguished guests (Dr. Zaheer Baig - Scientist at KFUPM, Ex-Ameer Mohammed Farook and Abbas Uchil, Excom JF Riyadh), including President, Treasurer and Secretary of Dammam Unit on the dais.

The meeting commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran by Mohammad Mubeen and he enlightened the importance of Charity in Islam and emphasized the audience to come forward and help the needy in the community for its betterment and gain rewards from Allah (SWT). Rafiq Nariyar welcomed all the members and guests in his welcome speech.

In his presidential speech, Mohamed Sharief Sultan thanked the committee for giving him the opportunity to lead JF Dammam Unit for the term 2016-2017. With all the best wishes and support from the Committee, was able to justify the role as President for the given term. He expressed his appreciation and also thanked all the committee members for their enormous support which had strengthened Dammam Unit to lead in the direction of prosperity.

The annual report for the term 2016-2017 was read by the General Secretary Junaid Ibn Munaf. First he briefed about Jam’iyyatul Falah to the audience, which literally represents an association meant for the welfare of less privileged brothers & sisters of the society, which came into existence in 1988. The first and foremost priority of Jam’iyyatul Falah is given to EDUCATION, spreading literacy and all round development of the less privileged families in the community. JF also provides scholarships under different schemes for the needy students in twin districts. JF frequently organize the Medical camps, awareness of healthcare, health camps, eye camps and special medical check-up (including ladies by lady doctors) in Mangaluru & Udupi. JF also provides Dialysis medical treatment for poor Kidney patients. JF also provide free education in their PU College at Derlakatte for poor girls’ student.

Treasurer Abdul Rashid presented the annual financial reports of Dammam Unit for the Year 2016-2017. It mainly highlighted the financial support given to various programs and activities conducted in Mangalore.

The appreciations and mementos were awarded to the members recognizing for their enormous support rendered to JF Dammam Unit during the term 2016-2017.

1. Most Promising Member of the Year was awarded to Sadiq Ahmed.
2. Very Special Honor was awarded to Mohammad Ashraf.
4. President’s Choice Award was awarded to Mohammad Sharief Hassan.
5. Outstanding Support to Dammam Unit awarded to Ahmed Abbas.
6. Committee Member of the Year was awarded to Suneer Ahmed and Nizamuddin Shaikh.
7. Best Supportive Member of the Year was awarded to Sharief Karkala and Abdul Najeeb.
8. Special Appreciation to Official Caterer was awarded to Golden Spoon Restaurant.

Very special thanks were given to the committee members for their support in sponsoring the monthly meetings in different venues.

Mohammad Arif Shaikh dissolved the present committee and the Election Officers from JF Jubail Unit (Mohammed Farook and Siddik Abobukkar) took the dais to conduct the Election. The New Committee of 50 members was formed for the Term 2017-2018. The Office Bearers were unanimously elected by the managing committee.

The newly elected President, Sheikh Nizamuddin addressed the new committee and thanked all the members for showing confidence in him to serve the Unit during the term 2017-2018. Taking into consideration the support from the new and the outgoing committee, he assured to exhibit his role as President with better productivity with the ‘Vision of Success and Achievement’.

The senior-most member of Jam’iyyatul Falah Shahul Hameed took the opportunity to encourage the New Committee to work with commitment, devotion, hard-work and determination. He uncovered the ground reality of the downtrodden poor villages and its poverty which is growing day by day and requested new members to join hands to build a better community back home.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Mohammad Iqbal Shaikh and on behalf of JF Dammam Unit; he expressed the gratitude to all the members and guests for their kind presence and congratulated the New Committee for their success in accomplishing all the future assignments of Jam’iyyatul Falah.

The Annual General Body Meeting was dispersed with the Dua and the photo session of New Committee Members was conducted.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.
