Shilpa Shetty joins 'gold rush'; launches jewellery firm

April 3, 2014

Mumbai, Apr 3: Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty today launched her own gold bullion and jewellery company, which will have outlets in seven cities.

Shilpa_ShettySatyug Gold has entered into long-term contracts with gold mines all over the world and also owns two refineries in India, Shetty, who is Chairperson of the company, said.

Satyug Gold is opening seven stores in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chandigarh and Ludhiana. These outlets will feature regular collections of jewellery designed by the actress.

"We have entered into long-term contracts with gold mines from all over the world and own two licensed refineries in India. Some of the margins we make in our gold business will be passed on to our customers in the form of discounts.

"This is possible because we are a complete mine-to- refinery-to-customer set up," Shetty told reporters here.

Satyug owns 42 per cent stake in AuPtAg Refinery and 50 per cent in Royal Refinery, both located in Navi Mumbai. They have refining capacity of 18 tonne and 150 tonne per annum, respectively, she said.

On the occasion, Shetty launched 12 creatively designed evil eye charms made in 22 karat gold.

The company has also launched its own minted 24 karat (999) purity gold coins in different sizes. The coins will be apt for gifting, Shetty said.

Satyug is also launching, for a limited period and in association with the Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association (IBJA), a scheme that will offer patrons chance to purchase pure 24 karat gold at up to 37 per cent off the prevailing market rates linked to various delivery tenures.

Satyug has inked a five-year deal with the association worth Rs 25 crore as royalty payment, said IBJA President Mohit Kamboj.

Size of India's gems and jewellery industry is likely to double to Rs 5,00,000 crore by 2018 and investment demand in the form of coins and bars has a capacity to reach Rs 1,80,000 crore by 2018 from Rs 85,000 crore in FY 12.

Mumbai, Jul 23: Mumbai Police will soon issue summons to actor Kangana Ranaut to record her statement in connection with the case related to the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, officials said on Thursday.

A day after Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide, Kangana Ranaut had released a two-minute video speaking highly of the deceased actor and accusing certain sections of the film industry of not acknowledging the star's talent.

She had also said that some of the last social media posts by the actor made it evident that he was struggling to survive in the industry.

According to the police, statements of 39 people, including film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been recorded in the investigation so far.

The Mumbai Police had recently said the statements of three psychiatrists and one psychotherapist have been recorded in connection with the suicide investigation.

Los Angeles, May 24: Hollywood star Salma Hayek says her daughter Valentina Pinault is a talented 12 year old who wants to be a director and star as a lead in a film one day.

The Oscar-nominated actor shares Valentina with husband, French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault.

Hayek said she has confidence in her daughter's abilities and believes she has a long way to go.

"She has so many talents. She draws, she wants to shoot movies - both as a director and as the lead - and she writes great pieces. Sometimes when I read her work, I have an urge to produce these stories.

"But she tells me that she will do it by herself when she's older. I don't know what's coming next for her but it seems that she has a lot of ways to go," the actor told HELLO! magazine.

Hayek, 53, added she is concerned about Valentina who has always lived a sheltered life.

"Valentina has always done what she wanted, I've never made her do anything and this means she hasn't yet learned how to oppose pressure, how to overcome obstacles.

"I know by experience that only the overcoming of some difficulties can lead you in the right direction," she said.
