Shiv Sena attacks Modi, calls him 'dhongi' who used to bow before 'saheb'

October 22, 2015

Mumbai, Oct 22: In yet another clear signal of the extremely strained relations in Maharashtra's ruling coalition, the Shiv Sena, Wednesday, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders.

ModiPosters have come up in Mumbai that depict Narendra Modi bowing before Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

Chiding the PM and others, the poster says, “those who do dhong should not forget the day when their head used to bow before saheb.”

Besides Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Nitiin Gadkari, LK Advani, Atal Behari Vajpayee, Raj Thackeray are portrayed in the poster.

The relationship between the Shiv Sena and the BJP took a dive after the BJP emerged as the dominant partner in the state. The Sena had to swallow the bitter pill and join the Devendra Fadnavis government as a junior partner.

Since then the Sena leadership has been creating obstacles and taking divergent views from the BJP on issues like recent attack on Sudheendra Kulkarni and threat to Ghulam Ali and other Pakistani artists and sports persons.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had hit out those who are using violence as a method of protest. Without naming Shiv Sena, he asked them to adopt "civilised mode" of discussing and debating issues.

"All right-thinking sections will have to distance themselves from these methodologies," he said when asked about BJP ally Shiv Sena's protest against the BCCI-PCB meet and the book launch of former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.

New Delhi, Jun 20: A rare celestial event, annular solar eclipse, which is popularly known as the "ring of fire" eclipse, will be visible this Sunday in India.

It will be the first solar eclipse of this year takes place on the summer solstice, which is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere.

While people living along the path annular eclipse passing through Anupgarh, Suratgarh, Sirsa, Jakhal, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Dehradun, Tapowan and Joshimath will be able to see the annular phase, people in rest of India can witness a partial eclipse, said the Ministry of Science and Technology.

When Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, the shadow falls on the surface of the Earth. The Sun is entirely covered by the Moon for a brief period. Those places that are engulfed by the dark, dense umbral shadow of the Moon experience the total solar eclipse. In the regions that plunge into the soft diffused penumbral shadow of the Moon experience the partial eclipse.

"Annular solar eclipse is a particular case of the total solar eclipse. Like the total solar eclipse, the Moon is aligned with the Sun. However, on that day, the apparent size of the Moon happens to be a wee smaller than the Sun. Hence the Moon covers the central part of the Sun, and the rim of the Sun appear like a 'ring of fire' in the sky for a very brief moment" explains Samir Dhurde of The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune.

During the solar eclipse, the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun by 1 per cent, the expert said.

Allying rumours that the eclipse will mark the end of coronavirus, Aniket Sule, Chairperson, Public Outreach and Education Committee of the Astronomical Society of India, said: "Solar eclipse is caused when the Moon comes in front of the Sun for a short time. As seen from Earth eclipses occur somewhere in the Earth 2 to 5 times a year. Eclipses do not impact microorganisms on Earth. Likewise there no danger in eating of stepping out during an eclipse. No mysterious rays come out of the Sun during an eclipse."

New Delhi, Apr 24: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has termed the government decision to freeze Dearness Allowance of Central government employees for a year as "insensitive and inhuman."

The former Congress President in a tweet said: "Lakhs and crores are being spent on the Bullet Train and New Delhi's Central Vista which should have been suspended, but the government has deducted DA of Central government employees and pensioners... It is insensitive and inhuman."

"The tragic part is that by deducting this amount from January 1, 2020 up to 30th June, 2021 for a period of 1.5 years, the government of India proceeds to deduct almost Rs 38 thousand crore from the income of these middle class government employees and pensioners, who rely completely on the pay and pensions that they receive," said Randeep Surjewala, chief spokesperson of Congress.

There are about 50 lakh such serving government employees and about 62 lakh pensioners.

"Even more tragic and objectionable is the fact that the government of India has not even spared our armed forces. The government has deducted Rs 11 thousand crore of the 15 lakh serving armed forces personnel and nearly 26 lakh military pensioners. What is their fault? They are serving the nation in times of all types of crises," said Surjewala.

The Congress alleged that the government did not spare the savings scheme.

Instead of curbing the wasteful expenditure, the government has been constantly hitting at the income of government employees and the middle class, it added.
